Center image on left side and don't know why
Have you checked to see what happens in "mono" especially if your pre-amp has a selector switch specifically for mono? You should then have a dead centered image. How did you set the toe-in for your speakers, by eye? Try checking the toe-in with a...
Oak ledge in dedicated room?
I would go with the ledge. It will likely help rather than hurt your acoustics plus as it will look great.
Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
I'll go with Grant Green since I'm a sixties jazz fan.
Connectors:Banana's OR Spade's
I tried a set of speaker cables with locking banana terminals and found they would work loose. Even though they are a pain to tighten sometimes, I would recommend the spade style termination.
Hi end audio who cares
Most people could care less. They are happy with terrible sounding boom boxes or the majority of car radio systems. I set up a demo for my employees using an ASL headphone amp with Sennheiser HD600 phones and a Cambridge D500SE player. This little...
Linn vs Audio Research
Wow! You're talking about a totally different sound and presentation. If you're basically happy with your present system, I'd do the Linn upgrade. A friend of mine has a complete Linn system except the speakers which are Nautilus 802's and it soun...
Buying a used amp for $2500 with out auditioning
Go for it. Read as much as you can about each candidate, narrow your choice to one and find a good deal. The worst that can happen is you won't like it, so put it back for sale, maybe you will lose a few hundred bucks but you gain a home audition ...
Quietest amplifier you have ever owned.
ASL MG headphone amp is the quietest while right behind is the Cary SLI50. I'm not looking up any s/n ratios, just relating to lack of noise without playback and a silent background from which the notes eminate verified by the simple act of listen...
What tubes for ARC LS 5 preamp - 6922/6DJ8
JJ makes a 6922 that is warmer than the Sovteks and is very reasonably priced.
Is there such a thing as a high end audiophile ..?
I made my own box. Go to your local home improvement store and buy the metal box, a couple of hospital grade outlets, a cover plate, and whatever length of 12/3 wire and a heavy duty plug end. I even made one with a switch so two outlets are switc...
Good NOS tube dealers/New prod. tube alternatives?
I just purchased some NOS tubes from Angela Instruments (www.angela.com)and recieved quick service and the product was exactly as advertized. Another place I've used is Antique Electronic Supply (www.tubesandmore.com) which is local to me in Tempe...
What are best phono preamps under $500 ?
The Phonomena will do what you want. It is electrically quiet, no rushing noises, LP surface noise is minimal, very minimal intrusion from pops etc. The variable gain settings work perfect. I use the Ortofon TM20 cartidge and have the gain set at ...
Single wiring bi-wireable speakers
I run my N802's single wired, sounds more coherent and a better soundstage than bi-wired. I've tried using both sets of terminals and various jumper wires and settled on the bottom (woofer) terminals as the main input and use the B&W supplied ...
How important is aesthetics to you in purchasing
I prefer the looks of open architecture tube amps and would not purchase a "boxed in" amp or one where the transformers sit in front of the tubes hiding them from view. I also would not purchase an over-styled garish product such as the current Mu...
Choice of Amps
I have a pair of DR8's that I've owned since 89 and they are very musical, a nice warm intimate sound for SS. They are not the last word in either bass or treble extension. They do sound better balanced then single ended. They are built like a tan...
