Anybody Felt Lower-End ARC preamps Bass-Shy? I had an LS15 and bass was not one of its strengths. It was replaced by a VAC Renaissance which does do bass with impact but of course there is a substantail price difference too. I would guess the more expensive ARC preamps would offer more bass.
Speaker Stands If you really have N802's why would you want a stand? They are already fairly tall. I have used the factory spike kit which raises them up a bit and improves the imaging a bit. Currently, I am not using the spikes.
Jazz guys: Bebop, Hard Bop etc. Check out Grant Green, Nat Adderly, Cannonball Adderly, and Donald Byrd, just the artists that come to mind while I'm at work.
Regards to the Rack I have two different racks, a Polycrystal, and a Deluxe Room Tunes and I prefer the Room Tunes rack. I can't justify the price of the Finite Element rack but it was judged best by Hi Fi+. I'm considering a Mapleshade rack but will probably order a...
B&W Nautilus 802D, Wilson Sophia 2, or others? As others have noted, your own gear is pretty good and you should never underestimate the potential of tweaks, set-up and positioning. A system has many variables at work and the room is primary. Best of luckOscar44 (Answers)Thanks, that is the pa...
B&W Nautilus 802D, Wilson Sophia 2, or others? I noticed in Stereophile that a local dealer is having a Vandersteen presentation on June 2 which sounds like an interesting event to attend. Two different comments about boomy bass on the 802D make me wonder if the Rohacell drivers are at fault. ...
B&W Nautilus 802D, Wilson Sophia 2, or others? Brian, what areas of the 802D performance did you find lacking or not to your preference? Also, what amp were you using at that time?
Biamp N802:is 55W tube enough for high/mids? Two different amp signatures crossing at 350hz does indeed sound terrible. I tried it and that's how I know. N802's will play fine with 55 tube watts, PHI110 in triode but I usually run the 110 watts in ultralinear.
VAC Preamp The Renaissance preamp comes already fitted with balanced ins and outs. Build quality is worth the price.
Sonus Faber Extremas ? Mark Levinson 33H. I heard this setup in a dealers showroom and the sound was simply spectacular.
Does a component stand impact the sound The stand/rack certainly has an impact on the sound. The question of which one will offer an improvement over what you have is the difficult part. If you are satisfied with the appearance and sound of your system you should leave things alone. I p...
1st Order Xovers....A question of absolute volume. The Imago's will play plenty loud. I have a pair of Diamante's and they can hit peaks of 105 db in my room. I heard the Imago's at the Green Mountain factory years ago and they will play louder than the Diamantes.
Sealed Loudspeakers? The new NHT Classic Three that graces the cover of the latest TAS looks to be a very interesting sealed speaker. Instead of the standard two way monitor, it's a three way plus very attractive sculpted styling. It's refreshing to see a stand mount ...
Got the itch again "real bad" for tube mono blocks Horseface, if you are referring to N802's, the crossover is at 350hz and the disparity in sound between a tube amp on top and solid state on the bottom is vividly evident, and not conducive to good sound. It would be a bad choice to bi-amp with an...
speakers similar to Magico Mini's Rhljazz, you are correct, the 805S is a ported design. The CM 1 uses a 5 1/4" driver I believe. I think part of the problem with a sealed design is that they are typically a little harder to power. (Could be wrong)The CM1's I have date from the la... |
