Is SACD a dead format?
I think SACD might remain a niche supported by the small labels that put out good jazz and classical music recordings. As a popular format it will not likely last. After owning the Exemplar 2900 I questioned whether SACD was necessary given how goo...
Meridian G08 or Marantz SA11-S1
Any other comparisons of these two units, or, expereince with any one of them? They were both reviwed in the last issue of TAS. Both were very positive reviews.
Marantz SA-11S1 and transport noise.
How do any of you like the sound of the SA11S1? can you make any comparisons to other units? The TAS review was pretty positive about this player, even calling it better than the XA9000ES
Have you seen the new R.E.M. reissues? WOW
My pleasure. You are right that the ultimate blame should fall squarely on REM's shoulders. A missed opportunity.
Have you seen the new R.E.M. reissues? WOW
From the horses mouth at Rhino Records: "They have not been remastered." I did a comparison at home before I received the email from Rhino and could hear that my earlier version and the new one sound virtually identical. Strike another blow for th...
Are "Redbook Only " CD players Obsolete?
Metralla: That is not hard to believe. I agree that the redbook performance of most Sony SACD players I have heard is only adequate at best. They excel at SACD only, unless, as you argue, they are modified. Then the redbook and SACD improve greatl...
Have you seen the new R.E.M. reissues? WOW
You may be right. I called Warner today and they are going to get back to me with a definitive answer. Though the person I spoke to did not think the regular CD had been remastered. IF I hear back from them, I will let you know. If they didn't rem...

What is the AFTP version? I am still looking into it. Thanks for the continued dialogue.
Are "Redbook Only " CD players Obsolete?
I DO NOT think they are obsolete in any way. Here's my story (if you are interested):Now that I have spent some significant time with an Exemplar 2900, I ask myself, is SACD really necessary? This player forced me to stop and think.Prior to owning...
Have you seen the new R.E.M. reissues? WOW
I am going to try and look into this a bit to see if the redbook CD has indeed been remastered or not. My understanding is that it was remastered. I'll get back to the thread when I have more info.
Blue Note Jazz Recordings
I have purchase several of these RVG editions and think they are fantastic. Music Direct (amusicdirect.com) has recently offerred some nice deals of packages of 5 and 6 of these.
Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore
I was at my local Borders today and I compared the SACD edition of this recording with the "Deluxe Edition". The Deluxe Edition has several more songs than the SACD version. If and when I buy this, I will go with the Deluxe Edition as I have found ...
Have you seen the new R.E.M. reissues? WOW
Am I the only one who likes R.E.M. or has no one seen these reissues yet?
Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore
I have looked at the SACD version and the "Deluxe Edition" at the store. Am I right or does the "Deluxe Edition" have more songs on it than the SACD version?
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
It's funny, I have been on the Hi-Rez bandwagon now for about 2 solid years. I have amassed about 150 SACD's and a handful of other Hi-Rez format discs. I can even be found at several points on this very thread saying GO! SACD GO! -- I think I am ...
