Marantz 10b hum
First thing to do perhaps is to check the tubes. They can cause low level hum. Just solved that problem with one of my amps which had a very low level hum in a tube which served both channels.
Humming and static noise, Plinius SA 100 MkIII
OK. I'm going to assume that my comments were the confusing ones. Here is a simple method for locating your noise. 1) Turn on your amps only, but have them connected to the pre-amp. Any noise?2) Assuming no, now turn on your pre-amp with volume mi...

Foster 9, Funny that you say that...Its exactly how I feel about Particia Barber and so many folks really like her too. I guess we all listen to music with different ears don't we. :-)

Humming and static noise, Plinius SA 100 MkIII
I'm not sure the source of the hiss you hear is actually from your amp. Consider that when turned on an amp is at full power all of the time. It's noise floor, to the extent it is evident, will be constant. It will not be affected by the position...
Sound diffusion panels--do they reduce brightness?
Lovely audio room!FWIW, your room is very similar to mine, size wise and set up wise, as were your problems for years until I got venturesome. Along the lines of Samhar's suggestions but going further, I relocated my speakers which both increased ...

Don't use a 6922 or variant 6dj8 or 7308! I would resist taking advise from this source. :-)I just googled this issue - you may do likewise. You will note that the PV 10 and 12 come in three different versions; 1) PV10, 2)PV10A and 3)PV10AL. (Ditt...
Need Help with Acoustat Model 4 speakers
Rrog, FWIW my post was cautionary and not meant to be more than that. I could elaborate on, and discuss with you, my experience with both the 2200's and the TNT 200 but I won't as it serves no purpose on this thread.
help.............
Think back to the time when your system operated exactly as you think it should. Then think of the changes you made and the effect you noticed after you made that change.I looked at you old thread on this subject. If I understand correctly you hav...
Need Help with Acoustat Model 4 speakers
Here's a really dumb question - have you plugged them in? I don't know if they would even work if you didn't. I've never tried.FWIW, my 2200's really needed a high current 200/400 SS amp to get them off the ground. I've never had the 4's but I bel...
Avalon toe-in?
Excellent advise from Tom. On a rainy day after you think you have optimized the toe in/soundstage try continuing to turn your speakers inward crossing the axis of your speakers in front of your listening position to the same degree. For example, ...
Acoustic Research AR9LS owners? Just for thought
This is just a guess but from what I can tell from your posts it appears that you have the speakers centered on the long wall firing across the short dimension of the room. I have done that and the result was aways a loss of upper bass -lower mid ...
PrimaLuna ProLogue Two - mixing tubes?
Fear not. Go forth and slay that beast! It really shouldn't make a difference on the longevity issue. :-)
Acoustic Research AR9LS owners? Just for thought
Yep. Especially if you can't hear a difference. That would be the only benefit and you might not be the only person who can't hear it. It is rather subtle.
Acoustic Research AR9LS owners? Just for thought
What I suspect is occurring - is that most amps operate in class a/b which means that its initial gain is in class a but it switches to class b at a very low levels. This switching from class a to b gives your amp the ability to operate up to a hi...
