Tube Preamp suggestion for the uninitiated Preamps that I have used that you can get used for less than $1000 that you should put on your list are the Magus (with a very good phono section) and the EAR 834L (which is a line stage only). But, FWIW, I've never used either with a SS amp.If yo...
Silverline Minuet "Supreme" Cwlondon, The Minuets were stacked vertically and the speaker on top was inverted. I never really listened to the solo set of Minuets so I can really comment about their sound. If you are interested in the whats and whys of stacked Minuets you migh...
Silverline Minuet "Supreme" FWIW I don't know about the 'new' Minuets, but I listened to a stacked set (4) Minuets at Alan's shop a couple of years ago. They were driven by inexpensive SS amps, pre-amp and CDP. Played a few cuts from discs Alan had and some that I brought. I...
Anyone compared 6922 Sovtek & Electro-Harmonix I tried Sovteks and EH's in an ARC SP10II. Compared to the Sovteks (and NOS 6h23's) the EH's were dullish and muddy in both the line and phono stage.
Jolida sj502a tube advice I used the Sovtek's in several different amps. Nice mid-range and highs. Not at all bright BUT the bass is really lacking I think. I have not used a Jolida so this is just a generic reference. I used SED 6550's which were much better in the bass b...
Music to soothe the mid-winter soul Pops, LOL. Takes a lot to get it up anymore, at least music wise. :-)
What to upgrade or just leave it alone ? Its hard enuf to get from point A to point B when you have a map, but you lack both a map and point B (a goal personal to you - you don't need my goal). Leave it alone and enjoy!
Music to soothe the mid-winter soul Solo piano music by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Lizst, Prokofiev, Schubert and Schumann, is music that I usually find very soothing, involving, yet relaxing. Some small Jazz groups involving Charlie Haden, Houston Person, Andre Previn, Ron...
What I learned on Audiogon This Year From the ad's I've learned that folks don't use their stuff much. Funny, after all that expense you'd think they would use the hell out of it.From the questions posed I learned that a lot of folks don't understand the function of Google or other s...
Preamp or Not Espoverload, A cheater plug is a plug with the old fashion 2 blade connector with the big round ground blade removed. You plug your 3 blade PC into it then you plug it into you outlet. While it is always nice to have one in the drawer to use if you...
Help identifying Tuner noise Kennythekey, Simple minds = simple solutions! What do I know. Obviously not much. :-)Sorry about that....................
Preamp or Not Espoverload, I briefly revisited your earlier thread in which I participated. Mihalis sort of mirrors my thoughts here. I though you had solved your noise problem when you used some XLR connectors on your amps? Not so?One thing that might be helpf...
Help identifying Tuner noise Simple. Either the tuner is not sensitive enuf to pick up a weaker signal, usually coming from a distance station, or the station is broadcasting a weak signal to begin with, or both. I have both a weak station and a tuner (Perreaux) with less tha...
Mechanical buzz coming from the chassis Sounds like transformer vibrations/hum. If you can, try mass loading the case, or the transformer with something heavy, lead shot in a bag for example. This might help a lot. BTW, if it is transformer hum it could be a problem with the transformer...
ARC LS22 and pre tubes Jiceman, FWIW in my SP10 I used 6h23s (low noise/rugged) in the critical positions but I found I can put 'colored' tubes in the cathode follower positions (which do not add any gain and are less demanding on noise issues). I long ago gave up tryin... |
