Seeking advice on how to improve my system
Your system is fine as it is IF you like the sound it is presently making. If you are unhappy about the sound, what is causing it? Personally I think I would find the wires and CDP contribute to some excessive brightness but that is just a WAG. On...
Why aren't the older members still active ?
I still lurk to help with music but even then I find so many folks don't really want the music so much as they just want great sounds on their newly acquired set up to validate their purchase. I pass on these inquiries as well as most equipment or...
What are you 'TRULY' Looking for in Loudspeaker...
A speaker that on one hand allows me to hear everything in the pits and grooves, but at the same time never gets in the way of a good recording. A highly resolving speaker with an old fashion BBC dip I suppose. Bill doesn't want to get bored, I do...
CD Player with Polarity Invert?
My BAT has one.
SANSUI AU-719 Gets Really Hot?
Your problem may be running 2 sets of speakers IF you are running them at the same time. Try disconnecting the satelites and see if the amp still runs hot.
Having an ear for Jazz
I moved into jazz initially just because I thought I must be missing something. It took a bit of exploration but I found that I was missing a lot. Interestingly this correlated with a diminishing interest in large orchestral pieces (classical) and...
is "audiophilia" another form of conspicuous consu
My guess is that initially an audiophile may be doing just that, buying stuff because it impresses his friends more than his having a developed/refined appreciation for what these 'finer components' can bring. Gives him bragging rights especially ...
Modern Linestages
Dammed if I know. Seems as if the cost of some of the finer vintage pre-amps w/phono stages when adjusted for inflation etc, cost no more than current line stages, albeit the newer lines stages may sound more detailed, etc.Lets face it, cost corre...
Compairson ground rules....should we have them?
Anyone asking strangers for opinions usually ends up with something seriously value challenged. But you are right, many that come to forums believe that everyone has two good ears, good equipment, good environment, good set up, some degree of expe...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Bryon, FWIW, I've never considered the mere collection of common opinions on any subject to be anything more than just that. What these opinions show, for the most part anyway, is that these particular individuals supported the use of 'neutral' as...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Bryon, Your last post raises an issue I was not expecting. I'm sure I must have missed it somewhere, but can you direct me to the post(s) in which the participants actually stipulated to the meanings and use of the terms you refer to. I must have ...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
FWIW, Mr T started out talking about 'neutrality' being an absolute (like the word 'unique' perhaps) and I happen to agree with him. You do not modify an absolute term. It is or it ain't, at least according to my old English teacher who reprimande...
Who was the best jazz guitarist ever?
Orpheus10, Have you tried Charlie Byrd yet? He played a lot of Latin American music. No claim that he was the 'best' but he certainly was good and got a lot down. Check him out via Google and see if anything interests you.
cayinA100 T tube amp
Kiwi, You should have listened to these integrated amps with your excellent pre-amp before you made your observations. You might be surprised. BTW, do you think your preferences may have been more the result of speaker matching than any anything e...
ARC SP8 as Phono Stage
Re SP10II line stage and assumedly the SP8 as well. I was able to do some A/B of the line stage with a passive line stage as well as another less pretentious tube line stage. With the passive line stage, as well as the lesser tube line stage, the ...
