Just upgraded to the DK VS-1 Signature
Please list all of the amps under 20K that you have listened to in your home with your present equipment. As it stands all we know is that you like the more expensive DK than the cheaper one. I applaude you for your perserverance in the face of ad...
I need a female jazz vocalist. No Krall, No Norah
Quick follow up - I can't edit worth a crap! The Stallings album is "Remember Love".
I need a female jazz vocalist. No Krall, No Norah
Mary Stallings has been mentioned before. She has a new release "Rember Love" on Half Note Records. Some scat, some lush jazz renditions of standards. Excellent music, recording is very high quality. Good place to start if you haven't heard her yet.
Why am I experiencing listener's fatigue?
Well, FWIW, I have mild tinitus and I can't abide any irregularity or excessive brightness in my audio. This has driven me to pay close attention to eliminating these problems. The result is I can listen for hours w/out difficulty. In fact in tuni...
Why are audiophiles perceived as being wackos?
Perhaps I'm lucky, but my friends are tactful enuf not to tell me that I'm a whacko because I 'collect' audio equipment or music. Maybe you need new a new class of friends. :-) The assumption that there are a lot of folks who think we are whackos ...
AR LS7 v SP14
My experience with the SP14 has shown it to be a very detailed, clinical and bright sounding pre-amp. I've no experience with the P270. The LS7 is a nice budget tube amp, not overly warm or bright. Tube changes can make a difference in its tone. H...
Why am I experiencing listener's fatigue?
Could be set up problems. Do you have first reflection points under control? What have you done with toe in? Are you listening on speaker axis? You don't mention room conditions, size or location of speakers and listener position at all. Would lis...
Loud Popping / Electrical Noise?
Pre amp tubes have probably gotten noisy and need to be replaced. Turn off the pre amp (or mute it) leaving tha amp on. Does the noise go away? If so Its the Pre-amp.
Oracle Delphi MarkII or Music Hall7? Which one?
Uniformly great advise, especially the comments by Jhorowitz which are quite useful. With any luck you might find the tone arm mounting plate the previous owner used will be suitible for your new arm. There is a fairly large group that use the sam...
What makes a $20,000 cd player cost 20,000?
Douglas and Boa2, Interesting comments..not without some foundation I think.IMHO, only a fool hordes his money and only a boor makes a display of it. Once you have provided for a secure future for yourself and your family, spend the damm stuff on ...
Odyssey Lorelelis, Tyler Acoustics Tylo 7U
FWIW, I do not have the 7U's but I do have the Linbrook Signature Systems which I drive with an all tube system to great effect. The drivers themselves are very fast and revealing although the way Tyler has implemented them in this model they seem...
upgrading CD player results
Richmon, I'm also surprised that a $3000 player didn't cream (as you say) a $630 set up. Perhaps the Marantz/X10 sound better to you is because it is just synergistic with your present set up (speakers, amp and preamp), not because it is intrinsic...
What's the funniest song you ever heard?
This will make me odd man out, but I love Gilbert and Sullivans operettas of which my favorites are HMS Pinafore and the Mikado. But my favorite G&S witty ditty is A Capitol Ship... Which starts out, "A capitol ship for an ocean trip was the w...
Audio Research vt100mkll question
I suspect the harshness you hear is from the 6h30's. Call Leonard at ARC service dept - he will give you the straight scoop.
Classical music - starting points
Beemerrider, Solti's 1st, suggested by Rushton is a good place to start. It's in print and its a budget CD. If you can't find it Kubelik is another budget disc I'd recommend that is in print. If you want to try #6, Zander on Telarc is a fine place...
