Integrated Tube Amp For Soliloquy 5.0 Speakers Rarl, I have the Five as well as the One. I've never heard the Two. I put the Five in my main system with SED KT88's. Its just a tad rich in the bass but, frankly, I've come to love it that way (after repositioning my speakers a little). Go for it.
Integrated Tube Amp For Soliloquy 5.0 Speakers Tpsonic, Doesn't the manufacturer warn against using treatments on tube pins? I seem to recall seeing that in the manual.
Integrated Tube Amp For Soliloquy 5.0 Speakers Primaluna - Well built, not expensive, and idiot proof. Check it out. Oh, BTW, it sounds pretty good too. It errs on the warm side of neutral. Not a bad thing, IMHO.
Tube bias and related ramblings very exciting Too, too, much! ROTFLMAO. Talk about getting educated the hard way.Try calling the techie that fixed your amp. He apparently knew what the bias should be. Next time get an amp with auto bias circuits - that should work for you SS guys.BTW I shower...
Speakers for a first-time separates system? If you can find a pair of used Tyler Linbrook Monitors in your budget range, go for it. These sound much 'larger' than your typical small two way speaker but image just as well. These ARE high end speakers - the quality of sound is such that you w...
Another sign SACD is dying Could someone explain why it costs so much more to produce a SACD than a Redbook CD? That has always been for me the killer. No one who is not an 'audiophile' is going to pay the difference to get an SACD when they don't have the listening skills ...
correct way to turn off tube preamp Dougmc, FWIW I'll take a crack at your questions, but bear in mind these are observational answers, I'm not a 'techie'.1) The circuitry of many pre-amps is not stable when first turned on. Because of this many pre-amps have an auto mute function w...

Graphic Equalizer --Ugh If you have a tape loop, and you are only going to use this EQ on poorly recorded CD's, get something simple and inexpensive, put it in the tape loop and only put it in into the chain when necessary. You are already getting compromised sound with ...
Popping when source is switched or muted HUH???? I've had this with same experience with things as simple as source selector switches. My techie mentioned something about DC offset.
alternative to speaker stand spikes? I agree with Jihley, if you are on a budget those hockey pucks can work well. They are cheap and seem to offer a bit more stability (as well as isolation) than cones.
grado reference statement hum Grado's are notorious for the poor shielding of the cartridge, which in your case is picking up hum from the TT's motor. Used to be a problem for me until I got a TT with a well shielded motor. I've seen suggestions in the past for shielding motor...
LS25&PH3 OR SP-10 These two preamps are tonally sufficiently different to make your choice fairly easy. IMHO the SP10 is more balanced and, if it errs it, it errs on the slightly warm side of neutral. The LS25 is more tonally cool and, perhaps, offers a small bit m...
Volume Level It could well be a tube in the phono pre- try switching the tubes from left to right etc and see if the imbalance changes.
The most placement forgiving planar speaker? Drken, Re not wanting to put the speakers more than 2 ft from the rear wall....Don't know about the Soundlabs set up - I'd take Albert's and Duke's word on that issue. However on other panels, or electrostats, 2 feet from a back wall may not be wh... |
