Is this bad?
Do you know how to bias the tubes? If not you should find out and check the bias on the tube. Perhaps the distributor can give you this information if your don't have a manual. You could have a potential major tube failure in your future which mig...
Is this bad?
Select the output taps based on sonic's. Electrically it won't make much difference unless your speakers have a significant minumum impedence, in which case the 4ohm taps will probably sound best (control the bass). The tube issue you mention is to...
Best Place for Negative Reviews?
"Listen for fun and read to learn" should be, IMHO, Listen for fun and learn to read. :-) Sorry, couldn't resist.
What song best describes you or your life?
Frank Sinatra's "I did it my way", or so my wife sez! :-) But, I do identify with the sentiment.
Best Place for Negative Reviews?
Its interesting how some see product promotion in some reviews when careful reading by folks familar with the reviewer and the products in general can find all kinds of picks and nits which would kill a purchase. Interesting kind of conundrum - th...
Insanely Expensive....and Worth Every Penny
Mr Tennis (and others), In my view the fault in the original question was the use of the words "insanely expensive" which have apparently been criticized by those who interpert them too literally. To someone on a limited budget much could be seen ...
"Great RCA interconnects under $100?"
Marco, You are really sharp on tube stuff as well as IC's, cables, etc. Got a question. I'm facinated by the flexibility of a system that has lots of tubes. I just changed to some different power tubes in my amp which really smoothed out the highs...
Insanely Expensive....and Worth Every Penny
"Wildly, insanely expensive", I don't know, but my SP10 wasn't exactly cheap in 1984 terms, close to if not SOTA, and was the core of my main system until recently. Its still worth on the used market 2/3ds of what it cost. Zero regrets.
Balanced Not really and Ground Hum
Are you saying that you totally disassembled your components and then added them back into the system, one at a time, and you didn't notice the reappearing hum at the time the offending was reinserted into the system? I agree with the above re gro...
Agnus Dei - Samuel Barber
Try Shaw's version on Telarc (80406). An excellent performance and typically good Telarc sound.
Cary SLP98 Tube Question
FWIW, I was interested in this unit at one time and read a lot of user reports as well as reviews - it seems that your experience may not have been all that unusual. I noted a lot of comments about tube selection and the need for NOS (relatively e...
Is there a optimum lenght for power cables?
FWIW, if you buy your PC for its benefits as a 'filter' or 'tone control' then longer is better is, IMHO, a logical conclusion. I typically use 6 and 9 foot lengths for convenicence, especially the 9 footers for mono amps with short speaker cables...
What time do you wear?
MRE2007, FWIW I've had a Sinn Chronometer/chronograph for about 8 years. Outstanding time keeper. It really is a chronometer. I loose less than a minute a month. I'm not familar with your selection, but don't hesitate just because most folks have ...
Lack of bass with SP-9 MK3
There are numerous on-line tube sales companies which handle a lot of new production tubes (not so much NOS tubes, which are MUCH more expensive, BTW). I use the Tube Depot for new tubes but others do as well. Go to Audio Asylum and check out thei...
Lack of bass with SP-9 MK3
I doubt that your unit is faulty.Couple of possibilities. As you said, if you are comparing the SP9 to any unit with a contour feature engaged you bass will suffer considerably. Even if your contour feature was automatically adjustible with change...
