Tube Pre-Amp Question
If the hum changes with an increase in volume it is likely that it occurs in a source/pre-amp connection, or a component part or tube in the unit that preceeds the line amplifying section of the pre-amp. I'm not familar with the VTL but if it has ...
Sweet sounding SE tube amps under $3K USED
Blindjim, FWIW, I recently bought a Cayin A100T out of curiosity. I've only had it for a month or so but so far I'm not only pleased but surprised. While this is an integrated amp it has in input for a preamp which bypasses the 'front-end' of the ...
Down-firing Sub makes floor rattle
Yes, it makes sense. You sub rolls off gradually above 39hz, your main speakers roll off gradually below 56hz, and the combined energy from both speakers between 39 and 56 hz will equal the out put on either speaker alone at the roll off frequency...
Down-firing Sub makes floor rattle
I think I've got some bad news for you. The vibrations that are being transmitted to your floor are more likely than not airborne, even that may seem counter intuitive. A down and dirty check - put your hand on the sub when its making the floor 'r...
One's trash is someone else's treasure
Mechans, FWIW explaining the morality or humanality to folks who might be anti seminites is about as vacuous as explaining the value of generousity to 'Yankee Traders'. They are not only insensitive to your comments they actual take pride in their...
Am I going crazy or?
Mr T, If we don't know the selling price of our stuff how can we figure out the value of our assets, our net worth? Where else can we get (more) accurate appraisals. Of course its our business! Or perhaps just a curious distraction.......... Ever ...
One's trash is someone else's treasure
LOL. You just passed some major gas during a church service. Trying to apologize doesn't help at all. Phew! You'll just get more glares from the congregation whose mean age is probably a lot closer to your victim's than yours.FWIW I agree with Mr T...
Am I going crazy or?
Yep. A whole lot of folks are asking too much for some very ordinary stuff. But, if you are tying to sell a high quality, expense, product admired by many but affordable to few you can't expect to sell if at a fair price in a short period of time....
combining different cables
IMHO the need to use "ONLY" the same brand of IC's and cables is a myth circulated by manufacturers and salesmen. As synergy is an issue with combining components and speakers so it is wiring issues. The components you are using and the sonics you...
How to evaluate preamps?
The only way I know of to accurately evaluate any components insertion into an existing system is to have references (recordings) which are an intregal part of your musical memory and represent instruments, including voice, which replicate your im...
while waiting on a preamp for my DEFY 7/6550's
FWIW, In my post I made NO recommendations, just gave you some info to consider before you commit yourself to tube selection or amp modifications. FWIW, from your comments about the sounds you want from a tube amp, including your selection of smal...
while waiting on a preamp for my DEFY 7/6550's
If you hate 6550's compared to KT90's you're really going to hate EL34's. Compared to 6550's they are a warmer, 'mid-range magic' tube. Sounds nothing like the KT90 or 6550. Beleive it or not the 6550 (SED's anyway) is much closer to the KT90 and ...
Tube handling/designations
Call BAT before you start sub'ing tubes. Most anything that takes 6DJ8's can take 6922/6h23's BUT not everything that takes 6922's can run 6DJ8's as effectively. They are not identical tubes. FWIW.
Bad Tube in an Audible Illusion M3A
Some pre-amps require rugged tubes. My SP10II is one, your AI is another. Many, probably most, popular tubes suffer early death (get noisy) in these units. Often 100 hours or less. I use NOS 6h23. They will work well in your AI. Not a 'warm' tube ...
Is this bad?
Here is a possibility, assuming that the guy you bought this from was honest about biasing before sale. I'm sure you thought about it...If he did it, he knows how, can tell you how, can tell you the optimum bias point, you can get a meter and chec...
