The greatest MM and MI cartridges ....
I have maybe a hundred different ones, and two stand out. One is the Technics 205C-IIX. It is a moving magnet type. The other is the TRX3, a moving iron type. Both stand tall when compared with virtually any moving coil I have ever heard, except t...

As always, I look forward to seeing you!
Tonearm Choice:SME or Rega?
I know it isn't camp these days, but an Audio-Technica 1005 MK11 will give you exactly the effective mass that you need for the Denon 103. It really isn't a bad tonearm. I have the SME 3009 Series II Improved, and I wouldn't even consider it for t...
Turntable interconnect
Don't bother unless it starts humming. As you climb up the food chain in this crazy hobby, you will find out that different wires sound different ways, however.
Garrard 301-Worth the effort?
Look at it another way. If you spend around a third the amount that you had planned to spend for a new turntable on fixing up the Garrard, after decent research on the possibilities, of course, you'll be out a couple of grand. That's the going pri...
mp3 based motor drive?
Atmasphere is correct, but not with every type motor. With those that are frequency controlled, however, a good clock is a necessity. A typical quartz crystal is capable of accuracy of around one part per million, and an OCXO like Atmasphere menti...
alternative power supply for Garrard 301
The hold up has been the enclosures, which are my responsibility. I accept all blame, but they are now slated to be shipped. The circuits are finished, so you guys won't have to wait much longer. I haven't seen the controller, but I feel sure it w...
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Hello Dertonarm,While it may be that we do not agree on some things 100%, this time we do. Maybe sometime, just maybe, we can hear each others turntables, and see if we like the flavors. I suspect we will. :)
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
"Does anyone know what is so special about the big M-S turntables, apart from their obvious build quality, which can after all be matched by several of today's high end belt drive turntables?"Hi Lew,In my opinion, the string drive, combined with h...
Ideal SUT for Lyra Olympos cartridge?
You may want to take a look at offerings from Intact Audio or Bent Audio.
Got the table now I need a good arm and cart combo
Hi,For $500 you can find decent sound that can be readily sold when your budget increases enough for an upgrade. There are quite a few of those choices, but here are a couple that are known performers.Audio-Technica 1005II tonearm with a Denon 103...
What are the $5000 options
Get someone to build you a vintage turntable, like a Garrard 301 or a Lenco. You might be pleasantly surprised. Even if you detest it, you'll be able to move it quickly. As they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Thuchan nailed it."If you ever had a chance to look into the motor design of a big Studer Tape machine or at the big EMTs you know what motor design could be at its best. This is how professionals do it. Maybe we are used to deal a little to much ...
TW Raven 10.5" Tonearm what cart are you using?
I suppose my tastes run more toward the sound of the Lyra. The A90 seemed to be missing something, some expected detail maybe? Anyway, it is a choice of flavors, isn't it?
Schröder Tonearm
I have an early "two-string" Model 2, and it is very nice.
