Direct drive vs belt vs rim vs idler arm
I have checked a few, but mostly I have checked motors that are commonly used. I was surprised.

Halcro,Yep, but that won't happen. A lot of new ones pass, but the surprise is which ones. Some old ones don't pass, however. I built a DIY turntable around eight years ago that started life as a Lenco. It runs a little less than 1/4 RPM too fast ...

Sksos1,I think we all know which one you will put at the top of that list! Seriously, such a list would be surprising to a lot of people, and it would undoubtedly generate angst among many manufacturers, not to mention all the explanations from en...
Interconnect recommendations
I'm a bit biased because the manufacturer is a friend, but Tel-Wire makes very good cables.I am reminded of Reuben Mattus who was the founder of the ice cream company, Häagen-Dazs. Someone once asked his secret for making ice cream. His response w...

Syntax,I may be even more cynical than you! I believe the overwhelming bulk of merchandise made is created mainly for profit, with the case being the part which receives the most attention. For example, one very famous turntable maker that almost ...

"These things all come down to the quality of the implementation, whatever direction is chosen."Exactly. :)
Direct drive vs belt vs rim vs idler arm
Hi Dover,I stand corrected, I think. This is where I got tripped up on your post with the word "and" being key. "I said it is an assumption and that if the belt doesn't stretch then there is no creep." More from Mark Kelly:"Some form of tensioner ...
Direct drive vs belt vs rim vs idler arm
As to Dover's post, belt creep is not caused from stretching the belt. Find Mark's writing on the subject because he explains it far better than I ever could, and he backs it all up with the proper math. It is a physical limitation of a belt drive...
Super Lube PTFE in NYC
You didn't say why you want it, but reconsider if you plan to use it on anything with Oilite bushings because it will plug up the pores of bronze based bushings. Aside from that, it's really good stuff.
Turntable That Can Automatically Replay A Track?
If my memory serves me, the ADC Accutrac was actually made by BSR. They had an idea, but the end result was sort of like Ronco's stuff. Maybe they should have named it the Record-a-Matic as seen on TV. I suppose there should be a category called "...
Reduced analog posts and items for sale here?
Some hacked accounts need to be cleaned up, but other than that I still like it here. Everybody has to eat, so I say give the place a break.
is it safe to clean records with isopropanol ?
I have records that were cleaned cleaned with alcohol many times that I bought when I was seventeen years old. I am almost sixty-two now, and they still play perfectly.
12" Tonearm What Have You Heard & Recommend?
The Frank Schroeder designed Artemis Labs tonearm is available in 12", and it is an excellent performer. Hopefully, there will be one displayed someplace at RMAF that you can audition, assuming you make it there this year.
Emma Watson- audiophile?
"Steve Jobs was a pioneer of digital music. His legacy is tremendous, but when he went home, he listened to vinyl." -Neil Young. It's the same Neil Young who said that downloading a digital file is like saying, "Hey, Picasso. Fax me a painting."
Emma Watson- audiophile?
Quentin Tarantino is another vinyl freak. His friend, Fiona Apple, always listens to records at his insistence whenever she goes there. Maybe that is why her more recent stuff is on vinyl, and maybe it is why the last one mentions an idler wheel i...
