Long IC/Short Speaker or Short IC/ Long Speaker In my experience, short speaker cables (say 4 feet) make a substantial improvement, particularly in an area with high RFI. (I live in New York.) If your interconnects are 2 meters or less, regardless of whether or not they are balanced, shorter sp...
Changing from RCA to balanced- possible? Hi. As to adaptors, most of the manufacturers do not make an RCA male (which is what you need at the output of your source components) to XLR. BAT and Rowland do not, or at least didn't a year ago. The best by far of the few who do is Cardas, espe...
Pass Labs Xono - Any users out there? I got the same info from Pass. The person I spoke to told me that on his own system at home he ran both the X-1 and X-ONO off one original small power supply and didn't hear any difference, and that if he had, all he had to do was take one or two ...
Pass Labs Xono - Any users out there? As to the comparison with the original ONO, I've had both, and the X-ONO was noticeably richer and warmer. The ONO tended to be a bit on the lean, dry side. I used the X-ONO both with a SS (the X-1) and tube (Lamm L-1) line stage, and thought it w...
Pass Labs Xono - Any users out there? I had the unit for about a year, in the version with the smaller power supply, which I used with a Pass X-1 line preamp (same version). Both were excellent in every respect. If you have any specific questions, let me know.
Advise on phono cable please Purist Proteus is an excellent phono cable. (Dominus might give slightly better sound, but is probably too heavy.)
Spikes or platforms Aurios Pro's, 4 under the spikes of each speaker. You won't believe the bass definition you'll get.
Best performances of Handel's "Water music"? McGegan on Harmonia Mundi.
What is the best pressing of Ravel's Bolero You haven't lived until you've heard the Cluytens version on EMI. Cluytens was Ravel's favorite conductor (although a Belgian), and the recording was made in the early '60's, when French orchestras still really sounded French. It's unique--the win...
Do Audionut Cable Elevators Work?? Opinions... Yes, they work, at least on cables running over carpet. There was an immediate and noticeable drop in noise. A set isn't that expensive, and is more attractive than most cheap fixes would be, but probably you can get equivalent results for much less.
MC demagnetizer, how many use one, any concerns? I've used a demagnetizer on my Koetsus for years. They always sound cleaner after being demagnetized, which I do every few months. If there is any adverse effect on the first couple of playings after use, I haven't noticed it.
Need amp match advice to drive Eggleston Andras Hi. I used a pair of Classe CAM-350's with Andras for several years. They are a perfect choice for these speakers, and probably drive them as well as anything twice as expensive. But if, as I understand your post, you already have Andras, don't mi...
Jumper Cables. While I also prefer bi-wire, the Cardas jumpers are very good. To my ear, it sounds noticeably better to run the speaker cable to the high-mid terminal and the jumpers from there to the bass.
who is Franco Corelli?? where to buy his LPs?? Corelli was the leading tenor of his generation and then just stopped singing a year before he was to appear in Otello. He made a lot of complete opera recordings for Decca and EMI, which shouldn't be hard to find from the used dealers--Aida, Tura...
HDCD Question.... Almost all of your questions seem to have been answered except, maybe, which SACD machines are HDCD-equipped when in their CD playback mode. The Sony's are not but the Classe Omega is, and I understand that the Lindemann D-680 is also. |
