Andra II vs. WattPup 7 vs Legacy Focus 20/20
I own the Andra II's and think they're extraordinary. I did a review of them on Audiogon about a year ago. As to the other speakers mentioned above, the Eidolons are superb, but have to go a long way (say 6 feet) from the wall behind them, and the...
Best speaker cable in the $2,500 range
You might want to add HMS Gran Finale cables to your list. The speaker and balanced IC's are particularly fine, and fall well within your price range.
Please recommend SACD player under $6K - "warm"
I've had an Esoteric DV-50 for 5-6 months. There is absolutely nothing cold or lean about it, at least after 200-300 hours use. I have balanced Purist Dominus on it and on my Classe Omega, and they sound very close in SACD--and no one has ever sug...
Are Revel Salons too much?
I don't think it's a "too much" situation, because your room is certainly big enough. Either speakers are designed to go back against a rear wall comfortably, or they're not. Some great speakers, like the Eidolons, are intended to be as much as 6 ...
Pass Lab X1 and X250 - Which XLR?
Given the quality of the preamp and power amp you chose, it would be a mistake to "ease in" too easily, when for a few hundred dollars more now you can avoid having to upgrade at all. On Audiogon you can get a pair of superb balanced cables used f...
Esoteric DV-50: Tweaks, Up-sample settings, etc.
Hi. My experience has been that on larger works the R-DOT plus FIR works best, but om smaller groups and especially solo instruments R-DOT alone is preferable--less bass, more lower midrange clarity. I don't leave it on all the time. After an hour...
Anyone own Eggleston Works Isabel?
Hi. The basic sound from highs through the midrange is similar, but below that of course there is nowhere near the impact of the Andra or Andra II in the bass, or richness, especially of the II's, in the lower midrange. But for their size they're ...
Anyone own Eggleston Works Isabel?
I use a pair as rear channels to a pair of Andra II's, but from time to time I have tried them as main speakers to see what they can do. They are usually driven by an NAD 370 and sound fine, but I have also hooked them up to my main amps, a pair o...
HMS cables - English Instructions?
Great cables, but leave them on 0 settings for a month. Every other setting degrades performance once you are used to their basic sound.
Which Solid-State Preamp under $7,000.00 New?
You have also left off the Rowland Synergy IIi, which would go well up on that list.
Speakers Corner QC?
I have 30-40 of them and have never gotten a bad one.
Klyne pre-amps, any experience out there?
I've owned several. They were always among the best I auditioned, and Stan Klyne is one of those manufacturers it is simply a pleasure to deal with.
NAD c370 owners: will the c370 accept 1/4" spades?
Sorry, I missed your question until now. I got them from the dealer, Lyric Hifi in NY, as a favor. I forgot who made them. I believe Monster Cable makes or made one also (the "Terminators"?) but don't know if they're still available. My best sugge...
NAD c370 owners: will the c370 accept 1/4" spades?
Don't know about size, and am not home to measure, but the heavy duty (WBT?) spades on my cables were too big, and I didn't want to reterminate to flimsier spades. I had to use adaptors, which are not easy to find.
Review: Marantz DV-8400 CD Player
I don't disagree with these conclusions, but want to add that the Marantz's DVD-A playback is quite strong. The Esoteric Dv-50 is much better on CD and SACD, but the differences between the two on DVD-A are not nearly as great.
