Why does my hifi always seem to sound especially good on Thanksgiving? It's the Christmas music! 😎
Help, which preamp to buy from my shortlist? Quicksilver, Audible Illusion, or Cary...likely in that order.
Dedicated 20 Amp Line for Audio For the current draw of most audio systems, one should suffice nicely. The amp is the most significant draw, and many really don’t draw a lot. CD players, DACs, TTs draw very little. Isolating the analog and digital components is a nice approach.
Bose speaker There are some pretty decent Canadian companies offering speakers (ie: Paradigm) that you're likley to see a lot more of than most of us. Energy, PSB, Axiom, CSS, Totem come to mind...
choosing the best Honestly, it's extremely subjective with lots of variables. Listen to both in your room with your system, and pick the one you like best...if either.
Bose speaker Mission, Kef, PSB, Polk, Paradigm, NHT, Wharfedale, Klipsch JBL, not Bose.
Best light weight full range speaker recommendation. It'd be good to know what's the in the rest of your system, and what your budget is. Magico speakers were used in one of the best systems I've heard recently. No sub, excellent bass along with everything else. I have no idea how heavy they are,...
How do you decide what your next upgrade will be? It can be tough to know which way to head. One way is to get really familiar with your gear, then try to isolating parts of the chain and compare/experiment with it. Not always an easy task, but it can help. Otherwise, it’s often a shot in the dar...
Midbass under 100$ If you want to challenge the resolution capabilities of something like a Sonus Faber, you may need to increase budget a bit, but it's hard to know for sure without trying them all. As mentioned, Seas and Scanspeak are excellent,...maybe look into...
New Pioneer PLX-1000 Turntable - Need recommendation for MM Cartridge and Mat Lastly, with and of these recommendations, do I need to be concerned about compliance with the stock tonearm on this new Pioneer PLX1000? The Nags and AT I suggested will work well with your tonearm.
Magico A5 or Sonus faber SERAFINO TRADITION or Harbeth 40.3 XD Harbeth and Mac could be a dull combo, due to both being on the warm side. Harbeth crossovers, while well designed, use a lot of inferior parts that can limit resolution. Magico M5 were used in one of the finest systems I’ve ever heard. All I kn...
New Pioneer PLX-1000 Turntable - Need recommendation for MM Cartridge and Mat Depending on your preferences and system, Nagaoka MP200/MP300 or AT-VM740ML/750SH. If you prefer the open midrange character and clarity of something like the Nag, IMHO the hot deal near budget is to grab an MP150 ($310 on Amazon, and add a JN-P5...
Tyler Acoustics Highland H3.5 or Focal Aria 936 If you like you're current Aria 936s, there's huge risk that you may prefer them. My advice is to hold onto them until you're certain you prefer the Tylers. If you don't, best case scenario is to resell the new speakers at a loss. With that sai...
Horn speakers are really bright? I agree with Russ, in that it’s often not accurate to generalize about the sound of anything because there are just too many other variables that often go ignored in the process. With that said, I have yet to hear a horn I’d want to own. I remain o...
Live music you have attended that left impact....perhaps better than you expected. Went to hear Jose Feliciano with a friend several years ago at a small venue. I really wasn't too interested, but we ended knowing the door man, got great seats, and proceeded to be blown away by how good Jose and his band were. Jose is blind,... |
