First tubes in 30 years
Great project.  Welcome back to the music!
Subwoofer for music, how low?
Very, very little music content is in the 20hz range so I wouldn’t let that be a major factor in sub selection. 27hz is plenty low, and REL is extremely well regarded..
What makes the biggest difference in sound quality?
speakers and cartridge tend to make the most difference IME, but you reach a certain level where everything matters.
OK-- I think I get it, now...
@decooney  All joking aside, most of my 50+ year in audio audiophile buddies and I slowed down on the gear rotation search, eventually landing on gear we truly enjoy, and forgetting about being an audiophile, back to listening to music. You'll k...
OK-- I think I get it, now...
Well done, and welcome aboard! I never intended to care so much about SQ, but every upgrade opened my ears, and now it matters to me. There’s a certain level of realism we each need to convince our brain and ears that there’s music in the room. In...
flabbergasted with reviews on speakers
In a top notch system, most, if not all the electrolytics caps are not directly in the signal path. Speaker crossover capacitors are, and get the full brunt of amplification. What is actually audible is a variable that’s difficult to quantify, but...
Mcintosh amplifiers and preamps
Mac gear seems to enjoys a "Rolls Royce" type of mystique. Whether merited on a performance basis is subjective, but it sure holds value, and is certainly a name recognized for quality even by most regular non-audio people. I do like the way it lo...
Why does my hifi always seem to sound especially good on Thanksgiving?
It's the Christmas music! 😎
Help, which preamp to buy from my shortlist?
Quicksilver, Audible Illusion, or Cary...likely in that order.
Dedicated 20 Amp Line for Audio
For the current draw of most audio systems, one should suffice nicely. The amp is the most significant draw, and many really don’t draw a lot. CD players, DACs, TTs draw very little. Isolating the analog and digital components is a nice approach.
Bose speaker
There are some pretty decent Canadian companies offering speakers (ie: Paradigm) that you're likley to see a lot more of than most of us.  Energy, PSB, Axiom, CSS, Totem come to mind...
choosing the best
Honestly, it's extremely subjective with lots of variables.  Listen to both in your room with your system, and pick the one you like best...if either.
Bose speaker
Mission, Kef, PSB, Polk, Paradigm, NHT, Wharfedale, Klipsch JBL, not Bose.
Best light weight full range speaker recommendation.
It'd be good to know what's the in the rest of your system, and what your budget is. Magico speakers were used in one of the best systems I've heard recently.  No sub, excellent bass along with everything else.  I have no idea how heavy they are,...
How do you decide what your next upgrade will be?
It can be tough to know which way to head. One way is to get really familiar with your gear, then try to isolating parts of the chain and compare/experiment with it. Not always an easy task, but it can help. Otherwise, it’s often a shot in the dar...
