Reason for buying old/classic turntables Don't you guys have friendly arguements with relatives over the holidays? Can't be nice all the time.
The necessity of a plinth Unless you've figured out how to get your table to float in mid-air you've got to set it down on something. A heavy inert platform - a plinth - will help reduce vibration and allow you to hear the record and the needle, not ambient vibrations.
Reason for buying old/classic turntables Sorry Audiofeil, but I've got to respectfully disagree. Precision machining, especially for something as simple as a wheel and bearing has been pretty well sorted out to perfection for quite some time. I'll grant you improvements from materials, c...
good sounding cd's Willie Dixon, I Am The Blues, MFSL Original Master Recordings. This was originally recorded in 1970 and features Sunnyland Slim on Piano. I'm not sure what label it was originally issued on, but the CD has the Columbia logo on it. It does not soun...
Jazz at the Pawnshop - LP I just got a current reissue of this for Christmas. Bloody good recording. I'm still not convinced this band swings though.
Reason for buying old/classic turntables Look, the basic technology of draging a needle through a groove is essentially the same as it was when Edison did it with tin foil. Sure all the stuff is more sophisticated, more refined, better sounding, etc., but those improvements are based mai...
Gerry Mulligan Ten-Tette Thanks man. I think that might be what I'm looking for. I've seen a couple of vinyl copies around and at least one 70's reissue - complete with cheezy cover art.
Gerry Mulligan Ten-Tette Chazzbo, Thats a great answer. I think you hit every Mulligan recording EXCEPT the one I was asking about (he said with a smile). There is a 1953 date, I believe a 10-inch on Capital, that is called The Gerry Mulligan Ten-Tette (or something close...
Help Me Justify Recent MMF7 purchase I have buddies who own both MMF-7 and Tech-12s. They both sounds pretty good. Get a decent cartridge. You'll be happy either way.
Question for Jolida JD9A owners Miner - I've got an RC 1072 that I was using the p-stage in. Do yourself a favor and get an external phone-pre. You'll be amazed at how much better it can be. Even a cheap one - I'm using a ProJect Tube Box - will make a big differnce. The Rotels ...
How much better is rega rb1000 over rb700? Nrenter - See, you can't argue with physics.
Happy Chanukah and Merry Christmas May the base of your tree/menorah be piled high with lots of great vinyl!!!
Reason for buying old/classic turntables I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there are a lot of audio companies that are putting more effort into building a good turntable than the Big Three put into building a good car. Have you driven a Dodge Stratus lately? Yeesh!Sota in the hi...
SOTA cosmos turntables You definately want to use the reflex clamp, even with the vacuum. the difference is noticible. Images will push forward out of the sound field and the imaging will tighten up. There is an indentation in the middle of the Sota platters, approximat...
Reason for buying old/classic turntables Belt drive is going to be impacted more by variables like platter mass. My Sota has a fifteen pound platter and so once it overcomes inertia it is very stable at speed. A lighter platter would be more susceptible variations in engine speed, belt i... |
