Another LP Crushes the CD
Well, I'm reading the cover of the record. Big print: Branford and Wynton Marsalis.

Actually, its got Wynton and Branford Marsalis. Still, no slouch of a band.
What makes for a "great" turntable?
Mass. A good TT will have mass. Everything everyone said above is correct too, but IMHO a very heavy platter contributes to both speed and image stability - especially if you're using a clamp. See SOTA.
I bought a TT--Need a phonopre
Try the Project Tube Boxes. They're reasonable priced - $450 & $700 respectively and they sound really good. I've got the cheap one with stock tubes and I'm very happy with it. It doesn't have any controls other than switching between MM and M...
Koetsu vs Dynavector
Good Grief! They're just records folks!!!
Budget Cartridge: Grado Green vs Ortofon 2M Red
Elevick - My Man!!! Actually, I've heard really good things about the Ortofon Red being much in the same vein as the Shures but better. And yes, if you're looking for a cart that costs less than $100 and is still a really good listen - I don't car...
Ortofon SPU Cartridges
Wow. I see the VTF is really high. That seems counterintuitive. Any problems with vinyl wear runing that much weight?
London Howling Wolf Sessions
I picked up a copy of Muddy Waters Plays Big Bill Broonzy on Chess yesterday. Its a 1986 reissue of an early 60's date. I was very surprised by how good the recording is. Certainly equal to any contemporary RVG jazz recording and the stereo imagin...
Why the Blues Really Hit The Spot
I don't see any reason not to combine beethoven and beer.
Why the Blues Really Hit The Spot
Well, I don't know about "touching some aspect of human nature" or about those special moments, but if you like it, play it! BTW - Blues are particularly good with Bourbon.

I'd have to go with Chashmal on this one. There is a huge difference between a real Chicago backup band and a bunch of enthusiastic, but ultimately lilly-white british kids.I listened to a couple of all-American Chess recordings and there's just n...

Someone has dust in their needle.
Can we go back to 33's please?
The 45s do sound really good, but you've got to weigh both the PITA factor and the extra cost over a 33. I only buy them if its a particular favorite record of which I want the absolute best available pressing. Otherwise I stick with 33s. Out of s...
OJC LP Reissues???
Nothing wrong with OJCs. But the should cost no more than $10 or $12. There's some jerk on e-bay who's trying to charge $50, $60 and even $70 for them. I can't remember is name but every one of his ads says "the nicest thing you can do for your ea...
