Jazz Heritage Society - How do they sound? Are you sure you're not thinking of "Musical Heritage Society"? They did some classical and jazz vinyl pressings on virgin vinyl that are very high quality, but these are at least twenty years old. I have a Duke Ellington record that they reissued...
'they blew'em off the stage' Ratt opening for Billy Squier in 1984. Dating myself on that one.
It is 5 AM, Do you Know where Mikey Fremer is? Cleaning vinyl is the bane of our existance. But you gotta do what you gotta do.
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange? Well, I did find something that helped. I was reading Larry Greenhill's review of the Burmeister B25 in this month's Stereophile and he was placing the speakers just six feet apart. So I moved mine in from eight feet to six and toed them in a litt...
Biggest selling Vinyl album in the US in 2008 was? Timrhu - What's the point of having her buy the physical media? We might look down our noses at downloads, but we're never going to stop them. Might as well let the kid have at it.
Collecting Blue Note Jazz Thats a good point. There are some really good Japanese pressings out there. The vinyl itself tends to be deathly quiet.
What piece of music can you play over & over? On your "eight hours of the same cd": I was in England about fifteen years ago and there was a case in the papers where a woman was suing her neighbor in an appartment building. She had been loudly playing Whitney Houstan's I Will Always Love You ...
cartridges to enjoy without worries I'll second Audio Technica. I have an OC-9. Very smooth and detailed. Very solid, well defined bass and I think I paid less than $400 for it.
Collecting Blue Note Jazz I'd beware of "VG+" on E-bay. You will be disappointed. There are a lot of sellers misgrading records out there. Not all but its very hit and miss. "VG+" seems to be the catch-all grade for some real crap vinyl.
Reason for buying old/classic turntables We buy 'em cause we like 'em!
Collecting Blue Note Jazz Your interpretation of the Blue Notes as bright and less natural than Contemporary (Label I presume?)is interesting. There's a big difference between BNs on vinyl and on CD. They are bright on CD. In fact I once panned Rudy Van Gelder based on the...
How many times do you play a CD/LP? If you're standing still as the world changes it'll run you over. (this coming - ironically - from a guy who collects nothing but 50-year old jazz)
Collecting Blue Note Jazz It really should depend on what your goal is. If you are building a collection of rare original records it might be worth your money to go after originals. If, on the other hand, you are buying records to listen to in a hi-fi scenario by all means...
How many times do you play a CD/LP? I'm always perplexed that people still seek out yet another new and improved copy of Dark Side of The Moon. If there was ever a record that EVERYONE should be tired of that is it. Its great, don't get me wrong, but everyone in America has heard it...
What piece of music can you play over & over? Coltrane - Blue Trane, Monk - monk's Music, and the original version of Take the 'A' train, which in addition to being a jazz classic is also an almost perfect three minute pop tune (which of course it was too). |
