Coltane Track - Which Album? Naima is on the '66 Village Vanguard Again record, but not on the '61. Is that what I want or is there an expanded version of the '61 release?
What is your favorite recording with a quirck On Duke Ellington Meet Coleman Hawkins - during the extended Hawk solo on Mood Indigo- right in the middle Hawk gives a good snort on his horn. Otherwise possibly the most beautiful tenor solo ever recorded.
Coltane Track - Which Album? I don't think it was bootleg. It sounded like a very good recording, even in the car. I believe it was one bass clarinet and one sax. I thought he sax sounded alto, but it could have just been the upper register. There was no third wind instrument...
First TT I had a Thorens TD-160 Super with a Grace 707 arm for my first table. Easy to set up and easy to use. I've since upgraded but that Thorens was a good place to start. I currently have a Sota, which can be very reasonable used. Also a great, well-bu...
slow, funky, groovin' laid back music The first US-3 album is really good. Great beats, pretty laid back, and lots of excellent Blue Note samples.
looking for pre phono for Thorens 160 Nothing wrong with the TD-160. I've got the Project Tube Box... not sure what model, but the cheaper of the two. I used it very briefly with TD-160 Super and Shure M97xe. Nice sounding unit thats built like a tank. I've moved on from the TD-160, b...
Static on highs Check your VTF. I was getting distortion recently and discovered that I was running 1.5G higher than should have been. Not sure how that happened, but I adjusted the weight and all is well. Turntable gremlins, you know.
newbs about tubes I have a Jolida JD100 cd player. I had my wife call Upscale Audio(I asked for tubes for Christmas but had to tell her where to get them)and they made a great recomendation. She came back with a pair of NOS Phillips that were a huge improvement. If...
What would I get out of damping fluid? Ok. Sounds like its time to experiment a little. Thanks for all of the responses. I'll post when I've tried it.
The lid closed ? I have dogs and therefore hair, so use the cover but... its not so noticible with the table I have now (Sota) but with my old Thorens TD160 there was a real difference in sound with the lid on or off. taking the cover off, or even just leaving it ...
add-on outboard RIAA equalization units? Would be useful for bright sounding Columbia 6-eyes also, which also used their own curve.
Regular Blue Note reissues quality? I guess the other thing you have to weigh with the Music Matters issues, is if you like that particular record enough to spend the $$$ on it. There were only three in the first batch I was willing to drop the dough on. Blue Trane? Definately!!! So...
Regular Blue Note reissues quality? An update on this one. I have a DMM copy of Blue Trane from sometime in the 80s. Its a pretty good pressing. However, just for the heck of it I ordered the new 45rpm reissue of B-Trane - just to try one. Holy Cow! Does this thing sound good. Espec...
Jazz Piano Trio / Spanish Guitar Lots of good suggestions here. I've got a dark horse: Its called 'The Three'. Joe Sample on Piano, Ray Brown on Bass & Shelly Manne on Drums. Released in 1976. Get the Japanese version on the EW Label (There is an inferior US version too). Its...
Newby needs advices... I'd second Elevick there. Make sure your tracking force is correct. That alone will have the biggest impact on your sound. Too heavy and everything will get muddy and distorted, plus it will not bode well for long-term record condition.I had a Shu... |
