What piece of music can you play over & over?
Tvad - That is a great track. Its too bad the rest of the ablum doesn't live up to it. In fact I think that record might set the standard for albums with one great song surrounded with inane unlistenable fill. But that is one really great song.
How many times do you play a CD/LP?
I think everyone has albums that they've bought only to find they don't like them and just filed away. However, I've often found that several years down the road I'll pull a few of those out and rediscover them - and LIKE them. Good example, when ...
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange?
No, the system is ok. In fact, listening to the first track - Abide With Me - where its just the horns it actually sounds amazing. It sounds like they were a little closer to the mic on this one.In fact, if there were only two mics used I think wh...

Anyone know the correct VTF for a V15?
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange?
Any thoughts on what accounts for that 'veiled' sound? I listened again last night and I really do think it may just be the vinyl revealing some limited recording quality. I suppose it may have been the recording setup and inexperience recording i...
man do I miss Tower records and
I got a coupon in e-mail this morning that even Borders was doing 30% off all cds and dvds. Their section, which used to be pretty good has gotten steadily smaller over the past couple of years. They're probably going to kill it altogether.
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange?
Rushton - So they actually ran two seperate mic setups instead of doing one stereo and down mixing to mono? That is interesting. Especially compared to, say, the RVG recordings where he down-mixed everything. Its two bad they didn't have those cen...

Do you know the recommended VTF for the V15? I think the M97 was 1.35g on the low end, but again, I may be comparing apples to oranges, never having used a V15 myself. In fact, I think I might be only person on here who hasn't used one at some point.

If it sounded muddy, did you have the VTF too heavy? I had a Shure M97xe just prior to the AT and found it be somewhat sensitive to variations in tracking force. It gets poo-pooed here a lot as not being hi-fi enough, but I found it to be very ple...
Miles Davis, the Cuisinart and other Hi-Fi Horrors
Well the hound was really the least offensive of the distractions. Sometimes he'll take a big drink of water, walk over and then belch like a 6-year old who just learned how to do it. He's charming, but with the cash I save not having to pay colle...

No, "Grimace" comes from the fat purple guy at McDonalds. But that was back in high-school (20+ years ago).Side two was much quieter by the way. And it wasn't Bitch's Brew. It was Round About Midnight.
Record Clamps?
try a reflex type clamp - Sota makes a good one. They have a lever on top that clamps the spindle instead of rotating against the record label. Not sure how that would work over the threaded spindle on your MMF7 though. You might also simply try a...

Ethos - what you need is a rear view mirror on your listening chair, or a trip wire attached to some bells so you can't be taken by surprise.Usually my room is pretty good, but last night was a bit much. The other thing I get often is snoring dogs...

Sorry Elevick, I can't answer this one. I can honestly say I've never listened to a rock and roll album on my table. Well, Us3, but I think of that as 3/4 jazz anyway. But for what its worth, I have a Star Saphire with a AQ PT6, which I believe is...
Vinyl and SACD rule when it comes to...
I got through about half of it (hard to find two full hours these days). Interesting discussion. Still amazing that the recording industry views sound quality as "good enough is good enough".
