Turntable upgraditis
I had a TD-160 Super with a Grace 707 arm that was my starter table. I wound up buying a used Sota rather than a new table. I believe I got more for my money. New is not always better.
London Howling Wolf Sessions
Oh, its definately an attempt to get white suburban kids, many of whom thought Eric Clapton WAS the blues, to hear some originals. It is a shame that the greats like Muddy and Wolf didn't get that recognition on their own. Funny story: When I got ...
Newbie speaker help for smaller room
I have S8e's in my room which is 15x18. I currently have them oriented on the long wall, but I've had them set up on the short wall too. If I recall, on the short wall they offered a little more stage depth. I had them about 2 - 3 feet from the si...

Me thinks Thorman didn't look at the pictures.
We Need an Affordable Record Flattener
Lewm, You didn't say anything about gas. The original post did. I got my tiles at Lowe's or Home Depot. Don't remember which. Its a stock item and they're heavier than glass. And speaking of the VPI 16.5 - Now that I'm on "vacation" again I think I...
We Need an Affordable Record Flattener
Record flatteners are an immense waste of money, and you don't need a gas oven. Get two 12-inch granite tiles. Turn your oven - gas or electric - on to 200 degrees. Put your record between the tiles. Stick the sandwich in the oven and turn it off ...
Spendor S8e or Vandersteen 3A-Sig or ?
I listened to both and wound up buying the S8es. I'd have to concur with Mlsstl above. The Vandersteens made nice sounds - especially with tubes, but the Spendors were a much tighter more focused sound. They image wonderfully, although they do hav...
The best speakers to pair with McIntosh MA7000 ?
And take your amp with you when you for demo purposes. Sure it weighs a hundred pounts, but if someone wants you buy $10K speakers in this economy I'm sure they'll carry it into the store for you.
Just moved and have a smaller audio room 10.5 x 15
the VR-4s are too big for your room. If you were happy with your SP1/2s might you consider a different Spendor like the S8e? Darned good speaker.
Help chossing a good speaker. $ 3-5 K
Spendor S8e. Great speaker. Very very clear with excellent imaging. I've had mine for about four years and they're the one component I've never considered upgrading. They like juice, so your MC352 ought to pair well.
It is 5 AM, Do you Know where Mikey Fremer is?
Mikey does get a lot of man-crush worship from the vinyl crowd. I'd love to hear his system, and I'm sure he's a great guy, but there are some folks getting carried away with the 33 1/3 RPM Superman stuff.
Yet another VPI 16.5 thread
OK. Couple other questions. It seems that a cork mat would not be the ideal material for the mat because dirt, etc. could get into it and contaminate the newly cleaned side-one as you do side-two. I see the cork can be replaced. Does anyone use a ...
