Preamp w/DAC (or Integrated w/DAC) vs. Outboard/External DAC? (Again! Forgive me!)
Not sure. Parasound has been moving to integrated DAC's for a while, but the president said the very first Pre/DAC was just pure convenience, afterwards they put in more serious efforts. I wouldn't say an integrated with a DAC was a negative, at a...
Switching speaker cables between two different amps (signal chains)
WBT spring loaded spades. You'll find they lock on with less pressure. :)
Comparison of latest DAC chips
The entire system matters. Power supply, input circuits, USB isolation and output stage design all matter. I have a Topping DX3 and quite frankly it is just OK despite being the darling of ASR. I mean there’s nothing wrong with it, but it’s also n...
Cannot get my Topping D10 + Objective 2 amp working, need help
See if the wall wart / power adapter is working. If you don't have a voltage meter try a replacement, even if the voltage or current is too low.
Preamp w/DAC (or Integrated w/DAC) vs. Outboard/External DAC? (Again! Forgive me!)
DAC's are reasonably stable, and good for the last 10 years. What's constantly changing and needs updating is the streamer. I'd go for the best sounding integrated, and if it blows your budget without a DAC get the Parasound ZDAC v2. :)
Just Curious - About using a AV Receiver as main unit
I had an Onkyo receiver, and Theta Casanova at the same time. Even my non-audiophile friends didn't like the Onkyo. This was many years ago and your mileage may vary, but it was yet another piece of gear I recycled quickly. I ended up using a Para...
Streaming only for Tidal Premium
The three ecosystems I know of that are popular are Volumio, Roon and BlueOS. The one issue I have with Roon is that it requires a reasonably well powered core (server), but after that  your streamers can be relatively cheap. I use a Raspberry Pi ...
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think
@asvjerry Yep, though all those measurements were quasi-anechoic, while mine are in-room. :)  Plus, those are meant to be near-field monitors. The measurements are overall not atypical for a two way. Shame that built in correction for boundary rei...
Just Curious - About using a AV Receiver as main unit
AVRs are all over the map. Pure sound quality, the Onkyo receiver and Emotiva processors I heard were garbage. I haven’t heard every brand and every unit though. In particular, these units sounded thin, powerless and lifeless. Anthem is much much ...
Balance knob ..
I have always been told - and believed - that you shouldn't ever mess with the balance knob. Same story with tone controls. Rubbish. Use it if it feels right. I mean, what exactly would the consequences be? I do have to watch out for ear wax tho...
So I'm up and running with my streamer but....
The Zdac is one of the most supremely underrated DACs of all time!!!It is a super good dac, especially for the money.
Looking for a DAC w/ balanced XLR line out, budget $1k
Mytek Brooklyn's are the right size, but not $1k. If you didn't want balanced, the Toppings are the darlings of ASR, include built in Blutooth
Looking for Speaker Thoughts
You probably would like the Dali's too. They are tuned to give detail at low listening volumes though.  If you want to play loud, you want something more flat, perhaps Monitor Audio.
Which is the most important part of a stereo system?
Put your speakers 3' apart and sit as close to them as you can.The difference between that and what you hear normally is your room.
What is felt to be the best in wall speaker for a large den?
If you are doing the whole British thing, remember Monitor Audio too. :)
