Streamers and bit rot.
Maybe instead of talking about gear being stable we should talk about what interfaces have stood the test of time. For instance, these are proven and long lasting:RCA / XLR InterconnectsSpeaker cablesDigital audio: S/PDIF, AES/EBU The Internet TCP...
Streamers and bit rot.
Eric,. The Sony has a single USB in port that permits use of either an external hard drive or an external DAC. Right, but you can't use the Sony as a standalone DAC. :( DACs are stable in the sense of being usable, but not in the sense of hold...
Does the length of cables really matter?
Yes, I've heard that to about digital cables. But then it's strange that the manufacturers make them shorter. Or...? As I recall, there's a really short length, like half a foot, where the reflections don't matter.  I don't remember where I read...
Why you want upsampling and upconversion in a server and why it sounds way better!
video upconversion adds noise. And neither is acceptable if you’re a purist. The AI based video upconversion is something brand new and cool. They teach an AI to extrapolate textures, but they are all just guesses. The AI is just adding aestheti...
Why you want upsampling and upconversion in a server and why it sounds way better!
I have to agree with @tom6897The AI is actually adding texture. Mind you, Sony claims they do the same with some of the MP3 restoration work they are doing, but up and oversampling algorithms do not. At worst, they extrapolate a line. At best they...
My tube amp causes isolation transformer to buzz
It’s probably obvious but transformers produce magnetic fields that produce....you guessed it, distortion! I dunno, without magnetic fields there would be no loudspeakers, so I'm actually a big fan.
Cannot get my Topping D10 + Objective 2 amp working, need help
You need another device to diagnose. Can you connect the D10 to another stereo or powered speakers? Same with the headphone amp. Can you take the input from another analog source, like your phone?
Emotive sira?
Fixed can be used to feed a second zone in your home, a tape recorder or through a HT preamp which has the volume control in it.
Streamers and bit rot.
@djones51I use bluOS which is part of Lenbrook Group, which might not be the size of Harmon I don't know but they do a good job of keeping the app and OS updated. That to me seems like a great idea, especially if they do Android at the same...
Streamers and bit rot.
It seems to me that all forms of digital playback are subject to early obsolescence.  CD players, DACs, and yes, streamers, become outdated much faster than amps, preamps, speakers, etc Thank you, but I think of those, DAC's are now the most s...
Basic Tidal streamer to USB DAC
Having a USB interface usually requires a decent CPU behind it for the drivers. If you forget that and go with coax or optical you'll have more choices. Personally use Roon with a mini PC hidden in the closet and Raspberry Pi 4 as the streamer and...
Is there a such too much power for speakers?
The thing is, I listen from low to mid Volume level around late nights. You want a preamp / integrated with a good loudness switch then. Highly recommend the Luxman 509ux for having low end drive as well as incredibly tranpsarent tone controls. ...
Streamers and bit rot.
That aside, any company that relies on software for the proper operation of their product - which basically covers almost all technology and consumer electronics manufacturers, would have to be very dumb to just count on the continuity of empl...
Home Theater Done Right: Millercarbon's System
Which means they will be flanking the screen somewhat tighter than is optimum for good two channel stereo imaging. You need a bigger screen. Hahaha. :)
Does the length of cables really matter?
Coaxial digital cables do have ideal lengths to minimize reflection and jitter. Those reflections are caused by the receiver impedance changing radically and causing reflections. Analog inputs do not have this sort of behavior, the impedance is co...
