What is a passive preamp?
Think of it as an input switcher with a volume control :-)
Aesthetix Calypso Power Cord
I'm using one I made from CryoMax III wire and Furutech FI-11(ag) IEC and FI-11M (cu) AC connectors. I've built a ton of these for myself and friends with no complaints yet and they DEFINITELY sound better than the stock cord on my Calypso at cost...
Device to record & playback music ?
You might consider one of the stand-alone Tascam CD recorders (mine is a CD-RW700 but there are later models), which record on any CDR or CD-RW and produce quality discs indistinguishable from the original, IMHO. I also have an Otari MX-5050BII2 r...
Fuzzy Sound in my Audio Research SP16 Phonostage
We need an AR expert here to confirm or deny that one preamp tube could affect both channels but yes, retubing should be straightforward.
Fuzzy Sound in my Audio Research SP16 Phonostage
Sure sounds like bad tube(s). Is the fuzziness in one channel or both?
Need Advice re: Dynavector 507II on CA Max Sol
You can at least hear what the new arm sounds like by putting several mats on the TT and/or adding spacers between the cart and the headshell. Dave
Nos Amperex 12AX7 Bugle Boy's hard to find.
That's Brent Jessee.
Walker High definition Link II/polarity hook up
I'd ask Lloyd Walker.
good listening/bad listening
Stress, sinuses, tinnitus -- the state of any of these affects what I hear and how I hear it. DavePS And there's always earwax build-up.
Reel 2 Reel
I use mine a lot. Recently purchased an Otari MX-5050BII2 and also have a (Dolby-equipped) Teac A2300SD. My pristine Teac X-1000R will soon be offered here on Audiogon for local (DC area) pickup. Even I can't justify having THREE R-R machines :-)Dave
Which CD or SACD Player
If you don't need the Raysonic 168's volume control, get a Raysonic 128. Mine has been a revelation. It replaced a $3K Sony SACD/CD player (I use a cheap Sony SACD player for single-layer SACDs, play the hybrids through the Raysonic). Good luck, Dave
RB-1000 repair advice needed
Just another vote for Brit Audio. Very capable folks ... and fast. Dave
Koetsu Urushi+SMEV anti skating setting help
Koetsu's own arm has (had?) no provision for anti-skating, IIRC. Wonder why?
Kenny wheelers "what now"
Some good suggestions here. Another: Eric Vloeimans (trumpet) on the Challenge label, especially Summersault and Umai (the latter with John Taylor, on SACD). And Stanko is a find.
Kenny wheelers "what now"
Agree. John Taylor is one of my favorite pianists and the others are great too. Dave
