VTL 5.5 VS CJ Premier 17
Geez, sorry :-)Don't listen to the guys promoting the Premier 14. I had one for years while my audiobuddies bit their tongues (as they told me after I got the 17LS2).

One person's "big change" is another person's "subtle improvement." Depends to a great degree on how resolving your system is and how experienced you are as a listener. Hope that doesn't come off as elitist or patronizing.
VTL 5.5 VS CJ Premier 17
No experience with VTL, but if you're going CJ, I'd recommend the Premier 17LS2 WAY ahead of either the original 17LS or the CT6. The teflon caps in the 17LS2 seem to make a big difference. Mine slaughtered a CT6. Good luck, Dave

This is an inch sign -- "This is a foot sign -- 'Repeat after me :-)Actually it doesn't make much sense even in feet. If you sit three feet from the speakers and the speakers are ten feet apart, even if you're right between them, it wouldn't work ...
New Product......Intelligent Box
Mapman, you're treating this whole subject with an open mind and willingness to think there's something real taking place. Faith-based audio doesn't work like that. It requires believers. You just have to decide if you're one of them :-)
GEM Dandy Record Cleaner - Has Anyone Tried It ?
At time when used Nitty Gritty (Record Doctor) RCMs go for less than the cost of this contraption -- my current Record Doctor went for $80 here on Audiogon -- it's real hard to generate much enthusiasm. Unless you're really into watersports. And y...
Best solvent to clean Vibrapod marks?
Sorry, I meant to be clear that the Vibrapod goo did indeed etch the (metal) top of the amp. So Ronsonol (or anything else) had no chance to correct the problem. Dave
Best solvent to clean Vibrapod marks?
Sorry, just tried Ronsonol on the only item I still have (Audiosource amp) that suffered from the Viprapods. Sorry, no effect. The stuff had actually etched the (metal) surface. Maybe if you catch it early enough.
Best solvent to clean Vibrapod marks?
Sadly, the Vibrapod ooze has never come off my gear -- wood or metal -- one reason I no longer use these things. In their defense, they warn you about this. But the warning should be IN BIG LETTERS.
Maddening HUMMMM
The one I have that still sports a price tag says $1.29. Still peanuts, I grant.
Maddening HUMMMM
Good idea, Jond, but you clearly haven't bought cheater plugs lately :-)
Any balanced one end/rca the other interconnects?
Sugerbrie has the right idea. I use these and they're fine. Dave
Gallo Reference 3.1 questions...
Sounds like a serious case of inept positioning. There is no "plumminess in the upper bass region" in my system or in the system of a friend I sorta browbeat into trying (and subsequently buying) the Ref3s. On the other hand, I've heard them sound...
How do you know that a record is really worn?
Depends to some extent on the vinyl used. I remember Supraphon and Hungaraton LPs that started showing audible wear (clicks, pops) after a very few plays, while other labels stayed silent. Unfortunately the more rigorous (aka, anal) I became in my...
Humming?
Okay, there are several steps you can take. Yes, try grounding the phono preamp to your linestage or receiver. Try repositioning the phonostage relative to the turntable and see if you can find a location that minimizes the hum. Try grounding the ...
