I always do something stupid...
Ask me how many phono cartridges I've lunched. On second thought, don't.
Which female artist
Melody Gardot. Don't miss this newcomer's two Verve albums, "Worrisome Heart" and "My One and Only Thrill," the latter also available on vinyl.
New Gallo 3.5's
Doug, see my 5/23 post on an experiment a friend (and fellow Gallo owner) and I carried out last week. My friend was so amazed at the improvement that he immediately ordered a pair of the Mapleshade stands himself and he and I just finished instal...
New Gallo 3.5's
Doug, as noted above I'm using the line level inputs with mine, if only because my SET amps complain mightily if I try to use the speaker inputs. I ran some frequency response tests yesterday with the sub amp both on and off and really don't belie...
I Just Don't Hear It - I wish I did
Thanks, Mumbles. I gotta say I really wasn't expecting the result we got. And we tried everything under my friend's speaker to get the most out of it, including my old (Stein Audio) stands and a cobbled-up maple/cones approach using the stock base...

If the height thing doesn't make sense, i should probably note that you have to remove the existing Gallo bases from the speakers before attaching the Mapleshade stands, so you first lose two inches, then gain six. If anyone cares :-)

Guys, after putting the Gallos on the Mapleshade stands they were LOWER than before. I had them on 6" stands from Stein Audio. They are now about 2" lower than they were then. And, frankly, their esthetics were better with the Stein stands. Any ot...
I Just Don't Hear It - I wish I did
I just had an experience with an expensive ($775) tweak that I wouldn't even have considered except for facing a milestone birthday and (with my wife's blessing) wanting to do something to take my mind off it. Sealing the deal was the 30-day, no-q...
sand versus shot in speaker stands
When I was a kid back in the dark ages, we all played freely with lead in all forms. I can remember having a kit of molds into which we poured melted lead to make toy soldiers, then painted them, probably with lead-based paint. Did we wash our han...
Mapleshade boards under speakers
I'm a big fan of maple platforms, the thicker the better. Deliver me from granite. Obviously YMMV :-)
Raysonic CD128 blue light
Nope. That's the "time" button (elapsed time, time-to-end, etc.) Above it (2nd down, left row) is "dimmer," which affects only the front-panel display. I tried 'em all and nothing kills the blue lights. Dave
Raysonic CD128 blue light
You can dim and eliminate the green display but not the blue lights, unless I'm missing something.
Raysonic CD128 blue light
Contact Raysonic. They're responded quickly to my queries. The blue light doesn't bother me, though, so I haven't asked.
Where was the Sonus Gold Blue Stylus made, USA?
May not matter much. The cantilevers on these things tend to collapse rather quickly. I've tried three because they sound so nice while they last. No more. though.
New Gallo 3.5's
I hear you, and the first time I saw them I figured I had to paint 'em black post haste (as soon as I decided the keep them). Strange, though, the more I look at them the more I'm getting used to the appearance. And the more I listen to the speake...
