upsampling CDP's for $1500? Big difference?
My Raysonic 128 offers optional upsamping via the remote, but it sounds worse to me in upsampling mode. Most upsampling CDPs don't offer the option, so it's hard to tell how much benefit there would be, if any.
what do you use to remove your tubes?
Hey, if "better safe than sorry" is the operative paradigm, you're best off without tubes. I wouldn't know, but they say solid state stuff is nice these days :-)
System worthy of XLR IC? If so, any recs?
Not a question of "worthiness," IMHO. My stuff has mostly both balanced and unbalanced inputs/outputs and I can't tell a dime's worth of difference. If you use really long lengths of interconnects, then it will pay to use XLRs. Otherwise, I wouldn...
what do you use to remove your tubes?
When everybody used tubes, nobody bothered to use anything but fingers, unless the tubes were still hot.
heard Melody Gardot?
I think she's fabulous.

Second the reissue KT77s.
What is more important source or preamp?
Ivor Tiefenbrun (Linn's chief) says that the TURNTABLE is key, not the cartridge.

Doesn't AA have a 30-day return policy?
Is an anti-static gun necessary?
I have horrendous static problems every winter, but I found the Zerostat to be little or no help (gave mine away). Raising the humidity is the only real solution. Not a myth, Vanderheulen. A good mid-winter static charge and 20 per cent relative hu...
Rickie Lee Jones "Pop Pop"
I have many of her recordings and find her hopelessly mannered, with "Pop Pop" being among the worst. So why do I keep buying them? Beats me :-)
Mapleknoll Questions/ Trouble shooting
The arm hang-up problem may be because the pump is weak, or at least not getting enough air to the arm for some reason. This is what happened with an ET-2 arm I had back in the early 90s.But too many people have had major problems with the Maplekn...
The most hilarious ad ever on Audiogon?
Definitely hot stuff.
Phono stage for tube system - recommendations?
I bought a used Aesthetix Rhea a year ago and have had zero problems. An extraordinary phonostage, and its three sets of inputs, choice of balanced or unbalanced inputs/outputs, remote-controlled loading, gain, and demagging are icing on the cake.
Washington D.C.
I second the idea of going to Joe's. You won't find much classical there, but tons of jazz and rock.
Anybody with an expensive TT try this????
Not THAT cheap ($50) but I agree that under-$1K carts* can sound exceptionally good on great tables thru great phonostages. The turntable is key, IMHO, with the tonearm/phonostage second and the cartridge third.* Examples (what I'm using now): Ort...
