No sound from cdp.
This happened to me when I had a preamp that was very sensitive to static charges. It would mute itself and require a reboot before all was well again. If your room humidity is low, I'd suggest a room humidifier.
LP Cleaning brush
LAST brushes, different one for each of 3 AIVS fluids I use. Replace when dirty.
Gallo Reference series question
I've had the original Reference 3s for 4+ years and love them. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with these speakers (though someone must) and recommend that you save some money and buy a used pair. Good luck, Dave

Second Jim McShane. He will do right by you.
Help me solve static electricity problem
You're right, Jea48, but there are room humidifiers and there are room humidifiers. The TWO Bionaire units I had originally were only barely able to keep the relative humidity above 30% in my listening room and I could still mute the CJ preamp by ...
Speaker Cables for Gallo Ref 3.1
I second the Morrow Audios and use them bare-wire at the speaker end. Tried quite a few others before settling on the Morrows. Good luck, Dave.
Help me solve static electricity problem
I had exactly the same situation with a CJ preamp (Premier 17LS2) and "solved" it only by getting an Aesthetix Calypso and selling the CJ. Mine muted itself even when I touched the SPEAKERS. I tried everything, even had anti-static copper tinsel (...
Which cable do you think is most important?
I'd put power cords first, interconnects next, and speaker cables last. Took me a long time to even put power cables on the list, though. I also believe in cable break-in and STRONGLY recommend a cable cooker, so I'm obviously beyond the pale :-) ...
Tube 'Characteristics' - EL-34 and 845 and 211
The Gold Lion KT77s surprised the heck out of me. I had earlier tried JJ KT77s TWICE (the first pair plagued by various well-known teething problems) and assumed the Gold Lions would be similar. Instead, they took all the best qualities of the Mul...
Tube 'Characteristics' - EL-34 and 845 and 211
I went from Conrad Johnson Premier 12s (140 wpc pp, 6550 output tubes) to a friend's design SET monoblocks (12 wpc 845 outputs, EL34 drivers, 6N7 inputs) because the 845 SETs sounded MORE powerful and open, with exceptional dynamics and just plain...
Have you Heard MONK at the IT club on Mosaic LP?
Maybe not the greatest Monk on record, but a really worthwhile buy with the usual terrific Mosaic production and documentation. For a limited edition 4-LP boxed set, it won't be available long at the current $100, IMHO. Dave
Why do preamps improve sound of CDP?
Depends a lot on the CDP. I found out the hard way (room full of fanatic DIYers) that my own pride-and-joy CDP, a Raysonic CD 128, sounds totally underwhelming through a passive. Sounds terrific in my system, coupled to an Aesthetix Calypso linest...
SET amp for Gallo ref 3.1
Hans, my amps were designed and built by a friend who is no longer in my area. There are only 3 pairs in existence as far as I know. They are by no means "commercial" products and were constructed on Mapleshade maple platforms, like a glorified br...
SET amp for Gallo ref 3.1
Thanks, Richard, although you overstated the wattage of my SET monoblocks (actually 12 wpc). They have driven the Ref 3s with no problems or clipping or over 4 years. Another friend who heard mine bought a pair of the same amps from the designer/b...
upsampling CDP's for $1500? Big difference?
Donjr, note that the CD 128 is the only Raysonic model I know where the upsampling is optional. As far as I know, it is standard and non-defeatable on the CD168. Dave
