replace Mcintosh with Luxman I owned a Mcintosh amp/pre amp and moved to Luxman, the components were their AVR products, so as everyone will tell you, AVR stuff never sounds as good as dedicated 2 channel. That said, I am much happier with the sound of my 590AXll then I ever ...
Casters to replace spikes Just an opinion, but I would buy short casters, screw them into a very thick maple “cutting board” type wood plank and then spike the speakers to the board. Maybe even use 5 casters on each board (one in the middle). I do not know if any “audiophi...

Should I try XLR? @ryder I own the 590 also and switched to XLR’s to my DAC. The main reason I did so as I have little room between cables behind my equipment and felt the added isolation might help. It did.
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners? redwoodaudio Ha! A CD is just like a LP record, but it's smaller and silver. Hope that helps. Next will be my too simple answer to 'What is an 8-Track..."Back to the discussion, I have kept many of my CD's, for both backup and fond memories, mu...
On-Line Tone Generator Thank you!
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners? I ripped all my CD's to a Bluesound Vault and never use my CD player now. I have several backups just in case and run it through an outboard DAC now, which did improve the sound. I have once in a while though about buying a newer CD player, but ca...
Subwoofers with room correction built in? I had an old velodyne that I replaced this year with a JL Audio 110 with their DSP. Without the DSP it was obviously better, but when I set it up with the DSP, to me it went up another big, very noticeable notch.
Any idea which headphones I’d like? I own Harbeth speakers, thought McIntosh equipment I owned also sounded mushy (just my opinion folks!) I own Audeze but end up always listening to my Grados. Hope this helps a bit.
what is the best cassette tape maker in your experience? Maxell and TDK back in the day, I sold audio equipment and Nak tape decks, they were the only ones to use.
What Have You Done With Your Obsolete/Outdated AV Receivers & Preamps? 😳 Put it in my basement workshop as a background music source, but I am temped to replace it with almost anything else due to the poor sound quality even in that environment!
McIntosh- Sweetest, Smoothest sounding Solid State ? I always wanted Mcintosh equipment and it took 20 years before I could justify spending that much. Finally got some and had it for years and was never really happy with it. Changed speakers, inputs, etc. Always made the music sound soft, rounded,...
Ideas to improve my system I agree with spenav, upgrade the receiver to separates, even if you stay with 5.1 - I long ago upgraded a highly rated Denon AVR with Mcintosh 5.1 separates and the difference was amazing (although I am now back to 2 channel). Going with a better/...
As you have moved on, are there any items you remember fondly...or most fondly? My Nakamichi 480, I think that was their most basic model and yet it made the best recordings and playback tapes. I would sometimes listen to the tape of an album rather then the record, and it was sweet sounding.
AVR: Internal 2 CHANNEL AUDIO MODE. OR: HT BYPASS (external equipment for 2 CH Sources) I had a full Mcintosh HT set-up, then got a Lexicon pre, not cheap by any means, and yet no matter whether using the built-in two channel or a by-pass to 2 channel, it never sound that good for just music. When I got rid of HT and went to a high-e... |
