Wood for a rack
Careful about that door really being solid mahogany. I had some 1930’s doors that I thought were solid Cuban mahogany due to their weight and age, however, once I cut into it, they turned out to be pine covered by a very thick mahogany veneer. Her...
cassettes CAN sound better than vinyl.
I used to record all my just-brought albums with a Nak and Maxell/TDK tape. Luckily I worked in an audio/record store at the time so could afford to do that. Although I could not say they sounded better then the LP, it was very close and great for...
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
@yuviarora I am replying in public because I never pointed anyone out, several people turned this thread into a political view, not just you, and nothing in my post was political. And then you went and insulted me. Why? I did look up the CIA and a...
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
This was a great thread until someone ruined it with politics. And for no other reason then to point out his political view point -- which no one here cares about because this was a thread about jazz, music and art. And I was enjoying it. Some rea...
How to get into high end digital? (Feeding a DAC)
I am familiar with your Nak 5 disc CD player. The multiple disk was a nice feature, but it was not near as good as their Tape Decks, but the name sold it. If you want to keep playing your CD's, I would suggest getting a CD transport and feed it in...
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
I totally get what you are saying. For instance, I like some Miles, but then I get lost in some of his free-form. I can appreciate what he is doing, but after one or two of his more improvisional stuff, I start to have trouble following it. My opi...
NO listening sessions posible , bookshelf for a Raven Nighthawk
I also have to put speakers on a book shelf, I went with Harbeth for the front port and very neutral sound. A bit boring to look at however. KEF would be another good choice which I have owned. I have heard the Sonus Faber and liked it quite a bit...
REL vs JL AUDIO
I just upgraded to a JL, heard most of the brands in this thread. The thing that won me over was their DSP, they are built like tanks and weight just as much. Solid. But I wouldn’t have minded a Rel or Martin Logan, I brought before the new KEFs c...
Please Suggest Approaches to Perceived System Darkening
Did you blow a tweeter? I had the opposite issue, my system seemed to get a little shrill and the music seemed thinner. Turned out my wife had put a small rip in the speaker of my sub woofer with the vacuum cleaner and didn’t tell me…although it d...
Biggest "bang for the buck" audio gear you have owned(in your history)?
Nakamichi Tape deck and AR turntable. Both made amazing improvements.
APPLE PHONES.......NO SERVICE
Totally Fake. Why would anyone go to a audio blog to annoy people about their phone not working that they brought off the back of a truck? This whole thread should be deleted. Maybe if I mention Rap Music one of the admins will delete it like they...
Is it worth it to add a music server just for FLAC files?
I own a Bluesound Vault2, it’s basically what you have in one package with a DAC and a really nice user interface, in my option much better the Mconnect. My personal opinion is, I love my Bluesound vault, and I use an outboard DAc with it now, but...
Demos - To Charge a Fee or to Not Charge a Fee?
I worked in several audios stores, there’s been looks-looks forever, yes I am sure it’s gotten worse, but even knowing how hard it is to be a store owner and a salesman, I would walk out if someone said pay me upfront. In fact in the city I live i...
Looking to buy bookshelf/monitor speakers
I owned the Totem Rainmakers for years, excellent bookshelf speakers, the newer versions like the Sky are even better.
Integrated / speaker pairings in the $6-7K range
Luxman and Harbeth (you can find other threads on this combo), Totem and NAD was a nice setup for me, but you cannot compare the two systems in the way they sound. Totally, totally different. So I totally agree with SOIX4
