Speaker cables under 1k used
Tried the Nordost Blue Heaven, but didn't like them, seemed too bright for me/my system. I like my Audience Ohno speaker cables, around $600 msrp, but found them used for about half. Seem to be very neutral to me. Of course what one person says...
Us: hobbyists vs perfectionists vs aural epicureans vs rampant consumers vs bad Buddhists?
"... physical manifestations of this primordial, impersonal self." Damn, that was good.
thoughts on the bose 501 speakers
I also sold them way back when, the tweeters were not high-quality. Any of the typical receivers back then could drive them pretty loud, so they were popular. The Mirage Speakers and AR's we had were way better, but the Bose name always sold them ...
Where are the young audiophiles?
There are many examples of things that most under 30, even 40, that hold little or no interest in. Look at Stamp collecting - killed by email and text. Model Trains used to be the "World's greatest Hobby". Coin collecting will be gone soon due to ...
Favorite Cowboy Junkies?
Wow, just going to pick out something to listen to and was trying to decide between Whites off Earth now  (Shining Moon, State Trooper...) or Pale Sun...). I don't have Acoustic Junk, will have to track that one down.
Hi Fi or Not?
@stereo5 I sold Kenwood also, but regardless of how it sounded, people just didn’t like the looks of their stuff and they didn’t advertise like Marantz and others did. Always sat on the shelf. Hitachi had some great sounding Class G stuff, but the...
What audio aspect are you knowledgeable in?
Matching various varietals to the music.
Do you have a "Music" Friend?
Hey old bear, thanks for jumping in, I was surprised this thread didn’t get more responses. The ones that did though were really interesting. Not sure what you mean by too Catholic. But wish I could fill one of your rocking chairs, good music is g...
Hi Fi or Not?
These are brands (and there are many others)  that go up and down in quality depending on their who their management/owner is and which series you are referring too. Marantz is a great example of an original American brand that was top of the line...
User Error Disaster
I owned B&K a long while back. Great sounding amp, really loved the sound. But it lost a channel and I didn’t feel it was worth fixing back 10+ years ago. Obviously I would be even more inclined not getting it fix today. I’d suggest you save u...
Wilson Audio Tunetot Loudspeakers Reviewed !
I was very willing to spend the money on Wilson's Tunetots, then I listen to them and was not that impressed. I really wanted to like them, but even through the sales guy tried different amps and DAC's  they never engaged me. This of course is my ...
Choosing an amp for Totem Sttafs
I owned the Totem Rainmakers (similar 2 way speakers, but  bookshelves not floor standing), changed from a Class D to Class A integrated amp and really liked what it did to them, smoother and better sounding at even at lower volumes. Yo will hear ...
What Rap available on vinyl sounds great on a good system?
Waiting for millercarbon to chime in with his favorite Rap on vinyl.....
What Makes your System Special?
The music makes mine special (having Harbeth 30.2 helps) More music is the change I’d want. Never enough.
Most comfortable headphones
Grado, they range from $80 on up. Light weight. They are all open back so not good for noisy places, just FYI.
