Why are there so many wooden speakers?
Open Baffles made from solid hardwoods gets my vote. I’ve owned a pair made from both Maple and the second were made from Sapale. All solid wood produced by a craftsman woodworker who was also an audiophile. The 15” bass from an Augie driver were ...
8 track tape vs 1st press vinyl
8 track? You can’t be serious. How many of your master tapes were eaten up by an 8 track player. Check this -  No turntable ever ate a single vinyl record. Maybe scratched a few due to user error. A Cheech and Chongs recording of the final version...
Jazz vocalists which may not be as real as we think/imagine
I have 9 or 10 of her albums. I don’t listen to them as I once did. She can sing, and plays very good piano. Her best work was the 2001 blu ray of the Live In Paris concert. Great music, great musicians. I don’t get your beef against her. And she ...
Do Audiophile Cables Matter? Here's PROOF!
That’s proof how to spend a lot of money for questionable results. I own $800 cables bought used at half the cost. I only own a monster power conditioner. I do have two 20 amp circuits for my audio room. Anything above that I don’t need it.
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
You’re using the wrong Martin Logan’s. Their Spires are available used for $3500 a pair. They’d offer far superior performance than Motians. Why would you consider Motians if you’ve $4k to spend on speakers. I don’t get it. Buy used, you’re always...
is this the greatest live band of all time?
The Eagles Live were pretty danged good. Their music sounded very much like their albums did. And that's generally not the case with live music.
Will a $700 turntable outperform a CD player?
Vinyl rules. Digital - not so much!
Seeking advice on Speakers that create an intimate 2 channel listening experience
Martin Logan Spires. Best sound I ever had in my system. Tight, realistic bass too!
Jazz for aficionados (removed)
Dex, Dex, Dex..oh yeah! Nuff' said!!!
WHat did Audiophiles hear during Tape deck era?
A lot of hiss and tapes being eaten by a car deck. RR was a much better setup, if you could afford one. Me I lived off of .99 8 tracks from the weekend flea market...your deck eats it, no problem, buy another. We from back in the day lived through...
Covering a TV behind your speakers?
Okay, after reading this article I gave the blanket over a 65" tv setting atop a stand behind the speaker a shot. I had a relatively thick blanket to use...and sure enough, there’s a much better soundstage than before. I didn’t believe it would ma...
Diminishing Returns
I don’t think $2k will get you there. Heck, you’ll spend $2k for a turntable and cartridge alone. $10k would be a better amount. I’ve $2k in speakers, $1500 in a turntable, another $2k in a dac, $1k in a tube amp, $1k in a tube preamp, $1k in a so...
Why don’t tube amps sound like tubes anymore?
What? My tube amps sound like tubes. What are you using? Try using vintage tubes. Many are very affordable. My .02
New TT for ~$1500
My .02I've come as a long time user of JVC TT's. Namely the famed QL-Y7, QL-Y5, QL-Y55, etc. Great turntables all around. I don't know Techniques product. But I do know a little something about direct drive. I've been using direct drive TT's since...
Separates or Integrated? What makes more sense?
I’m for separates. $10k isn’t necessary. Dennis Had Firebottle HO KT88. Dennis Had 6SN7 pre.  You’ve saved $7k. Thank me later.
