I will travell to New York, would be glad to meet members
I did PM you and left my cell number.  How long are your going to be around?
Mastersound Compact 845 preamp upgrade
Do you mean having what you have modified or upgrading to something you might like more from a musical standpoint?  I will tell you, as far as modifying goes, I would not let anyone touch anything unless the person doing the work has a set modific...
Harvard newspaper article on Analog vs. Digital
I had no idea of what they were talking about. It was either absolute drivel or totally over my head and I can't figure out which.
Those who upgraded from an AMR DP-777 to...
If you listen to rock and heavy metal, you should change your speakers to something more in the sound-reinforcement vein.  Mark Levinson has taken this approach with his Daniel Hertz speakers, which are a hybrid of audiophile and pro-sound concept...
“Invest” in Tekton?
The only way you can figure this out is to listen to them and see if the added expense is worth it to you.  Whatever somebody else thinks is meaningless.  You may not like this answer, but that's what it is.  I believe Tekton offers a return perio...
VPI Scout Set up
Just a small piece of friendly advice - I have seen several audiophiles stop using analog because they cannot help constantly obsessing over whether the setup is just right.  This obsession completely overwealms them and interferes with their enjo...
Too Many Forums asking about how to improve ones system, etc.
As you are in NY, I would be happy to have you over and help you out to the extent I can.  Send me a PM.
Too Many Forums asking about how to improve ones system, etc.
I'm sure it varies, but IMO, many people have no concrete idea of what they are listening to.  They have little or no reference to live music and are basically making decisions based on reading reviews and forums like this.  Also IMO, the only way...

I don't live far from the Verrazano Bridge.  PM me and maybe we can hook up.
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
Definitely try your own speakers.  IMO, in a domestic environment, it is virtually impossible to predict how a speaker will sound without listening.  Who knows - you may luck out and it will sound better in your new room than the old.
VPI Scout Set up
@brf.  Absolutely agree.  Both my Linn and Basis were purchased and set up in my home by dealers and IMO, it's the best way to go.  But the OP's post implied he would be doing it himself, hence my recommendation.
VPI Scout Set up
Nothing against VPI, but if you’re not familiar with TT setup, I think you should go for a fixed-bearing arm as opposed to a unipivot. The VPI fans will undoubtedly disagree, but if you want something easy, get a Rega with a Rega cartridge. It’s v...
Recording Studio sound Vs. Audiophile system
I spent years in recording studios and it’s very hard to generalize. I have seen recordings mixed on everything from Klipshorns to Auratones, which are single 4" drivers in a tiny box. I’m not sure I can say what the actual difference is between s...
Absolute Sound - do we really need another review like this?
I didn't read every post here, but it seems the OP was saying that the magazine is shilling for Oppo to sell more units before a new model comes out?  If that's what he's saying, it makes no sense because Oppo has no 105s left to sell.  My old Pio...
Anti Static
gruv glide completely kills static.  Not so much now, but at one time I had horrible static discharges coming off certain records and GG cured it.  When properly applied it works well and does not gum up the records or change the sound, IMO, athou...
