Phono Stage Recommendation $3000
Not to fuel the tube/SS argument, but Inna did not say solid state preamps aren't good.  He said that that the people HERE with serious systems rarely have a SS phono stage.  I think the implication is that tube preamps are superior, but that's an...
Upgrade from Jolida JD9 Mk 2 phono stage?
I think what J Carr actually said was that the loading makes more a difference to the phono preamp than the cartridge.  Seems like a distinction without a difference.  In any case, I think the Linto is really good and maybe look around for another...
Upgrade from Jolida JD9 Mk 2 phono stage?
There's a Linn Linto up for sale right now for about $800.  I have one and it's really very good.  I have no desire to upgrade it.  It has no adjustable loading, which may or may not be important, but just FYI, J Carr from Lyra just posted that lo...
Ansuz
The biggest thing wrong with Ansuz is that I can't afford it.
Still looking for a DAC I can demo at home. . .
If you like the Jolida, I would seriously consider either the Doge6 CD player, available directly from the Doge site, or the Doge7 DAC. The Doge6, IMO, is exactly what you describe, minus the jitter problems that can arise from connection to an ou...
How to polish Wilson Audio speaker
Dust lightly with Swiffer, then use a soft microfiber cloth and an auto detailing spray like Griot's Garage speed shine.  As stated above, clean in straight lines to avoid round swirl marks which are more visible. I believe Wilsons use automotive ...
Cartridges: Complete Scam?
Price/value analysis can be a tricky thing.  I have a friend who enjoys cognac, so I purchased a bottle of Hennesey Prestige for about $40 and it's fine.  Later on, I thought I would try a bottle of Hennesey XO at $125 and that it would be worlds ...
Seeking Advice on NOS DAC
AN makes great stuff, but I think you're falling into the trap of believing the chip makes the sound.  I think it contributes to it, but I remember Lampizator taking apart some MHZS cd players that used the cheapest dac chip in existence and even ...
Cartridges: Complete Scam?
When one first picks up an acoustic guitar, they would probably be hard pressed to identify much of a difference between a vintage Martin and a piece-of-garbage Esteban. (remember him?)  But with time and development, one may become aware of the d...

Static Electricity on Vinyl
Gruv Glide will completely cure the static issue.  Yes, I know some people are against putting coatings on their records - so be it.  I'm just letting you know.  Without getting into a debate on the safety, the audiophile sites such as Music Direc...
Seeking Advice on NOS DAC
You should check out the new tube dac on the Doge site.  It's probably not NOS, but if it's related to the Doge6 CD player topology, I'm sure it sounds warm and grainless, which is what people who are looking for NOS dacs are usually trying to ach...
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits?
I agree with addy - no matter what anyone tells you, you won't know if changing to an MC will be an improvement for you until you try it. It may mean something to you, it may not. My guess is - it will not.
Better Sound For Free!
Just taking your system apart and putting it back together cleans the contacts somewhat, which can liven up the sound.  I just did it the other week and I was a little surprised at the difference.  Dirty contacts do not help.
THE LITTLE BLACK BOX, 399.00 ABSOLUTLY NUTS
Squeaky wheels do get the grease.  I don't do it myself, but it definitely works out there.
