How does this make sense, any sense? Any sense at all??
...however some of us are super audiophiles. We actually care about knowing how to tell whether one speaker is better than another at reproducing the signal you put ino it. This is not a matter of opinion. It is fact.kenjit, what a revelation! Try...
How does this make sense, any sense? Any sense at all??
shtinkydog, audio gear in the same class (for Stereophile's ratings purposes) does not imply that these products sound the same or work the same way with your other gear, music, room or earsIn a sense the ratings provide guidance as to how well th...
Cartridge recommendation for classical listening
I wouldn't mount a $1K cartridge on a P3. It's a nice turntable but I doubt you can wring enough performance out of that deck and tonearm to justify the spend. Others will surely disagree. If it were me I would mount a Nagaoka MP-500 and be done w...
Why is There Not More Consolidation in Audio?
Interesting question and one that deserves a long and thoughtful answer. But not from me.But seriously, I have been a an audio dealer and worked with an audio distributor. Many people (me included) would say that there are too many manufacturers o...
speed controller for Lenco or Garrard
For the Garrard 301/401 and Thorens TD-124 you don't need an expensive and space-wasting external controller.A Keystrobe Pulser + Optibloc kit replaces the old internal analog speed controller with quartz-controlled pulsing. It's reasonably priced...
Best Tonearm for Thorens TD-124.
chakster, I'm pretty sure Jelco told me that they only manufacture the TA-series arms. I Googled it this morning and saw one reference that indicated that the other Ortofon tonearms were made in Finland (?). But I'm not really sure now. Anyone?
Best Tonearm for Thorens TD-124.
Ortofon tonearms made by Jelco in JapanThe TA series are contract manufactured by Jelco. I believe that the AS and RS tonearms are still manufactured by Ortofon in Nakskov, Denmark.
Audio Furniture has its own sound!
Hey Geoff, I'm sure that your simplistic view of the universe is your path to wa.  Not poking fun, just jealous.
Audio Furniture has its own sound!
>>>By the grace of god there isn’t any energy flying around that is low enough in frequency to affect the turntable and tonearm, which are designed to have resonant frequencies Fr much lower ⬇️ than any frequency speakers produce. Geof...
Audio Furniture has its own sound!
All good answers above, but I think that the core problem has not been properly diagnosed. If your rack is resonating then you need to reduce the amount of energy the rack (and your turntable) are exposed to.  I'm guessing is that your rack is in ...
Not so bright cartridge
+1 on the recommendation for Grado MI cartridges.
Whats a good phono preamp for an Ortofon Synergy G MC cartridge
I love Ortofon SPU cartrudges but I can only advise you what works best for me.  I use an MM phono stage (currently the Pear Audio Classic Phono, a souped up Croft) and an SUT (Step-Up Transformer).I find the MM phono stage + SUT sounds better to ...
Why are Trolls not blocked
In one way or another we are all trolls.  Who gets to decide when someone crosses the line?
Recommended S.S. amp type for TANNOY 15'' speakers
IMO Tannoy Red/Gold 15" drivers sound best with PP tube amps, 30-60 Wpc.  But if you want to use SS I would recommend one of Nelson Pass' excellent First Watt amps.  My choice would be the SIT-2 and my second choice would be the J2.
Best songs to test speakers
I believe the correct answer is to use whatever music you know and enjoy to test any stereo component. It's of little practical value to use bizarre, unfamiliar tracks for testing, unless that's what you are planning to play at home for your liste...
