Recommended SET amp and speakers to 20k
There are too many possibilities and variations to list. I would suggest starting by choosing a pair of speakers. Preferably by actual extended opportunity to listen or demo. If that's impossible (damned coronavirus!) then by specs/design/size/WAF...
Heresy IVs
I believe what you are hearing is the difference between the ported H IV vs the unported H III. Ported speakers have deeper but often looser bass extension than ported designs. The original Heresy's were unported for a reason.
Mag-Lev Turntables
There have been several posts on Audiogon previously about this turntable. Rather than regurgitating previous replies, I suggest that you start by searching on the Analog discussion forum.
High Output Preamp for First Watt SIT-3?
IMO, sell the ,7s and find a pair or refurbished Quad 57s. That would be magical
Leben CS600 or Atmasphere or ARC
@ quanghuy147 - the amps you listed all sound very different because of different power tubes, different designs and different power output. Do you know what you are specifically looking to hear, or will you be happy with any tube amp that "sound...
Triode Lab 2A3S - Any Insights?
@joeinid The answer to your question depends on your ears. Some guys like the 300b. I'm not a fan. I like 45 tubes. Others don't. The 2A3 is somewhere in between. If I had to pick the best sounding SET amp I ever heard it would probably be an AD1 ...
What is the average dealer mark up?
Some of those employees lived right down the road from you, right next to the English teacher...@wesheadley Well said. Does anyone else remember when the English teacher could live the "middle class" lifestyle?
Non-transferable warranties?
Automobile warranties are only transferrable because DOT rules require automobiles to be tracked by VIN, not by name. It's not out of inherent goodness on the part of auto manufacturers.
How long is too long for interconnects?
Good advice above. I ideally ALL cables would be as short as possible. But then we'd all be listening to Bose Wave Radios. My suggestions:1. For unbalanced connections, keep the lowest level connections as short as possible. These would be (in ord...
What is the average dealer mark up?
That said can you blame a customer for attempting to secure a better price? @4425 - no. Everyone wants the best price You would think they would advertise to a highly selected mailing list.@larry5729 - most dealers do this; at least the succes...
Help: ISO Beginner full setup for excellent sound on $2000 max budget
So if I read Doug's post correctly, it seems that he is not fond of Omega speakers. But I'm not quite sure as Doug's critique was quite subtle...Although I recommended something different I would like to take a few seconds to rebut: it's true that...
Help: ISO Beginner full setup for excellent sound on $2000 max budget
I think that you could put together a very good system for well under $2K, but it probably won't be tubes and it may not be the gear brands you specified. You might look at a kit from Edwards Audio. They are a UK company that makes turntables, inte...
What is the average dealer mark up?
richopp, crustycoot and 8th-note are spot on. With all due respect, most of you guys have no idea of what it takes to open, run and maintain a B&M audio business. To paraphrase an old saying, the best way to make a small fortune in the audio b...
Art Dudley passed away. Rest in Peace
The audio world just became a little bit smaller. I can't say I knew Art but I met him while working several audio shows and he was always the curious gentleman. I enjoyed Art's writing and his outlook on audio and music.
Neat Iota Alpha and Iota Xplorer. Has anyone owned or auditioned either one??.
I purchased a pair of Iota Alphas for my daughter, an apartment-dwelling opera singer. She loves them. I am a big fan of polydirectional speakers and reflected sound for acoustic and classical music and the Alphas sound great. The ribbon tweeter i...
