Basic integrated amp for $700-$900
If you want something that's NOT made in China there's the Edwards Audio IA-1 RP and IA-2 RP integrated amps, made in the UK.  Both include a good MM phono stage and a (admittedly plastic) remote
Cartridges that get strings right?
Did you try the Colibri or the A90/95 ?Colibri - no, as far as I remember.A90/95 - several.  I used to sell them and bought one at a promo price.  The A95 is a very good cartridge but IMO it doesn't come close to the detail and impact provided b...
SET amplifier recommendation
Get a Golden Sound SE-40 PSE amp.roberjerman2, do you mean the ubiquitous Golden Tube Audio SE-40?  If so, my guess is two of these bridged might work with the OP's B&W 805s but that's a hard row to hoe.  These amps need to be rebuilt and ma...
Cartridges that get strings right?
In my system the London Decca Reference cartridge blows away everything else I have tried for orchestral music.  It's a fussy cartridge (but not as much as in the old days) that requires a good tonearm and phono stage match, as well as precise ali...
SET amplifier recommendation
You are not going to get far w/ a SET amp connected to your B&W 805s.  If you want to enjoy the great midrange magic that SET (or SEP) amps can provide, you are going to need a pair of efficient speakers that are happy at 8Ω or 16Ω impedence. ...
Omega Super Alnico Monitor/Aric Audio SE KT88
I own a pair of Omega Alinico 6 monitors.  They are phenomenal speakers that do almost everything right and image like few others.  My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that they do sound a tad congested when playing complex music - larg...
Cartridges that get strings right?
I agree with (almost) everything already said here.  IMO speakers are the single component most critical to whatever sound you are trying to achieve.  No other single component will make as much as a difference to your systems sound.Other componen...
Has anyboidy had any experience with an 833-A single-ended triode amplifier?
There are far easier, safer and cheaper methods for driving more current to a pair of speakers.  No need to set your house on fire to do so.
Larsen speakers: 4.2 or 6.2??. Has anyone heard or own them??
Is that Tim?  Howdy!Duevel speakers?  Wow, how... esoteric.  But seriously, you should describe them in this or another post.  I have never heard them or even seen them but I would love to hear more about your impressions.Back to sunnyjim's origin...
Larsen speakers: 4.2 or 6.2??. Has anyone heard or own them??
sunnyjim, I closed my dealership over two years ago.  It was a side business and as much as I love music and gear it was waaay too much work for the paltry return.John Larsen is a great guy and the Michael Vamos at Audio Skies, the U.S. distributo...
Tonearm suggestions for my Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck
I have a 12" Thomas Schick tonearm and it's great, especially considering the cost.  Despite the claims made in Schick's new website that these arms support cartridges up to 22  µm/mN in my experience this tonearm definitely works best with very ...
Speaker selector app.
IMO the Niles speaker control is not the best solution.  If you want to seriously compare speakers I suggest you get one of the Luxman speaker selectors - see here:  http://www.luxman.co.jp/product/#accessory (turn on Google translate).  I use th...
Speaker selector app.
An app might narrow down speaker options, but it can't tell you what speakers will work in your room and sound best to you.  Unless you don't really care about all that.
The best speaker for a small room...at any price point.
I was recently in Miami on business and visited a great audio dealer: Deja Vu South.  They had a pair of Harbeth P3ESRs setup in a very small room and they sounded incredible.  The speakers were well forward of the front wall in a nearfield positi...
KD 500 w/ Grace 707 arm. Stylus type.
That tonearm is only going to be happy with a high compliance cartridge.  New Ortofon 2M series, some Grados or a used Grace cartridge.  Said from experience.
