Why we upgade

Always on a budget with two kids in college, but came across a good buy on a gently used wish list cartridge- a Clearaudio Maestro V2.  I was quite happy with my current cartridge, a Dynavector 10x5, but lots of praise had been heaped on the Maestro, so I dropped 5 bills and crossed my fingers.  Took the TT to my local shop to set things up property and give it a once over.  Just got it home and..... yummmmmmm!

All set for a while now.

That is precisely why we upgrade. To obtain a better sounding system one change at a time. The evolution of our system drives us, the love of music navigates us.

If I try to describe the improvements it may sound cliché, nonetheless  - I listened to the AP issue of Cassandra Wilson's New Moon Daughter and Blue Light Til Dawn  and Allen Toussaint's American Tunes and the clarity and texture of these recordings were simply richer and fuller with a crispness to each note and what appeared to be more background detail.

My rig is pretty simple - a Music Hall MMF 9.1 TT through a Marantz PM-11S3 integrated amp using the built in phono preamp.  Speakers are Focal Chorus 836V and matching SW800V subwoofer.  No special room treatment other than the usual basement clutter that comes with three kids.

I expect to spin a lot of vinyl this fall.  Anyone in the market for a gently used Dynavector 10X5?
