Why is it that every time, lately, that I'm interested in a thread...

... a couple days later it gets removed by the moderators? How bad can a thread be to deserve being REMOVED?

I may have missed something but... I'm confused!

@2psyop nice one, btw. For a long time I thought I was hearing better through one of my ears than the other, but then as I got older, that switched.

Also, as much as I railed against MC, he did make things interesting. Kind of like Eminem's line, "it feels so empty without me".

@roadwhorerecords nice name. Also, this is the kind of comment that leads to thread deletion. I mean, rather than cancel, just make a fascist powergrab and pass legislation marginalizing targeted populations.

I don't think it's 'crying' to a moderator when a member insults, accuses, belittles and denigrates, or makes negative blanket statements against fellow members. It's against the rules, it detracts from the thread at hand, and the person or people it's directed at has/have every right to see it deleted. Many times there's a canyon of space between truth and opinion.

+1, @thecarpathian

We lost another thread earlier today. The OP was simply asking opinion from actual users of three brands of ethernet cables and the thread quickly went down the path of pissing match between the usual naysayers and believers.

The only way to avoid going down the path of insults, belittling is by not engaging certain members whose sole agenda is to cause disruption with the intent of provoking others into displaying emotional responses. Just check their post history before you take the bait.

@thecarpathian

  I guess it's all in the viewpoint.

Snowflakes view "If you don't agree with me, you are intolerant! You should be censored, deleted, banned, fed to the hogs'"

Conservative view " Eh, no skin off my ass. Next. "

@roadwhorerecords Here; I fixed your post below:

"I guess it's all in the viewpoint.

Snowflakes view 'If you don't agree with me, you are intolerant! You should be censored, deleted, banned, fed to the hogs''

Conservative view, "I feel threatened by change and thus will use my waning power to maintain the illusion of control even as the world passes me by."

@roadwhorerecords ,

There are viewpoints and there are facts. When the rules of this forum are broken by those who devolve their opposing viewpoints into petty, childish back and forths that are more akin to schoolyard taunting than mature adult conversation, those posts are subject to deletion. That is a fact, not a viewpoint. It seems to me you're branding as a 'snowflake' anyone who doesn't want to put up with that nonsense. I'm all for defending yourself when personally attacked, but there are limits. So, my viewpoint is; your viewpoint is flawed. I don't agree with it.

You'll note that I'm not calling for you to be censored, deleted or banned.

So, so much for that.

So... pretty much exactly what you are doing?

Eh, no skin off.... you get it. 😘

There are plenty of conservatives that are just as testy about what is said about them. I can think of one that would make a very large orange snow-man.

There is no general right solution at hand right now. Many forums struggle with this. Some forum software tries to assist by throttling posts or temporary shutdowns. Look at the Roon forum - their moderators must spend hours rearranging posts and deleting or editing violations. It fixes a post at great cost but doesn’t solve the problem.

What is needed is people being much more mature than seems possible. Most of the stuff people post they’d never say to someone’s face. Those that would probably get in a lot of bar fights.

I don't know if any of you remember or were a part of the Gramophone Magazine Forum but I was a very early poster. Over the course of time people were down right repugnant. The level of insults, name calling, racially disparaging attacks, etc... became out of control. Eventually Gramophone just cut the chord and the forum was finito. I view Audiogon as the heretical opposite of what the Gramophone forum was.  And while the monitoring here sometimes seems excessive, I do believe it keeps the mud slinging from adulterating Audiogon's greater good.

As long as you enjoy living your life in an Echo Chamber, @goofyfoot, Audiogon is and will continue to be the place for you to post and debate, err, scratch that, "debate" implies a differing opinion which may lead to (shudder) disputing conversations.  There may even be "huffy tones" in Forum Member's voices!

Not to worry, if that happens, or if a Member gets their feelings hurt, we can rest peacefully knowing the Moderators will most certainly shut down the thread by sunrise -- protecting our sensibilities and fragile egos and psyches.

Give it time, @goofyfoot, you and I are the only nuts up posting at 3:00 a.m.!! 😂

Have a great weekend, my friend.

Good insight with these discussions. When do I sign on in the AM to read controversial discussions before they are deleted?

I saw several threads removed that referenced other used audio sites. Honestly, it wasn't a smart move. There weren't even links. It's not like people who come here can only type audiogon in the browser.
