Who Was Your Favorite One Hit Wonder

What was your favorite one hit wonder song, and who performed it? You can name one or a few.

I loved (and still do) "Voices Carry" performed by Till Tuesday.

C'mon. Put on your thinking caps.

Words & Music by Chip Taylor

Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Rsbeck, you are taking me back to my teenage days in the early 70s! What a blast! I loved that song!!
This thread is great, takes me down memory lane. Don't think I saw Surfin' Bird by the Trashmen mentioned here. A record a friend of mine bought just so he could destroy it with a sledgehammer.
Has anyone mentioned "The Night the Lights went out in Georgia" by Vicki Lawrence (from the Carol Burnett show) I think this actually made it to number 1.

Also a second for Martha and the Muffins "Echo Beach", quite easily my favourite song from the 80's. Does anyone remember Rough Trade with Carol Pope, "Highschool Confidential", rather racy back then.

paul.
Python Lee Jackson..(Rod Stewart??)...In a broken dream.Circa 1972.Love to get a cd version.
Bobby Fuller Four: I Fought the Law
Swinging Medallions: Another Shot of My Baby's Love
Tubegroover,

I thought I'd put in "Feelings" by Maurice Albert but when I finally came down to your post I knew you won!

Some fantastic songs listed above and sorry to say many are not one hit wonders by any chance. Thelma Houston's song "Don't leave me this way" is featured on an LP which I happen to have, unfortunately her best "I've got the music in me, is missing in my collection but a dear friend of mine has it and what fantastic sounding record.

I want to add one song not mentioned in the list and am pretty sure it was a one hit wonder by Mureen McGovern and the tile of the song "The morning after" The song was featured in the movie "Posiden Adventure" probably dating back to 1975.

Another song which comes to mind is by Mary Hopkins title of which was "Those were the days" I know she had an LP out on Apple Records but none made it to the TOTP's in those days (1968). I hope this one qualifies as a one hit wonder, unless someone proves me wrong.

Surely I must say this thread is the most interesting one for me as well since so many memories are attached to many of the songs listed in this thread.

I wonder how "Rock On" would sound on a REL Subwoofer. I remember listening to it back then and always was impressed with its bass line.
He,he,he. Reading this thread over and over again, one can tell the age group of the posters responsible.

Dweller,
Ain't that "Holding back the years" by simply Red? Or am I wrong? They are big in Asia too. I thought heir song "Star" which is constantly on the airwaves when I was visiting (2001) is mandatory to be heard at least once everyday!

Iseekheils,

Talk Talk? I remember "It's my Life". Great beat!
Amandarae: You're probably right. I usually double check these things but my collection is currently boxed and I was too lazy to verify it on Amazon. Really love that f***ing song. Reminds me how passionate I was in the teens (to the detriment of more practical pursuits). This is not to say that I was a teen when this song came out (turned 13 in 1966), but the soul of the song evokes that era.
Makes me weep at present the state of pop music.
crowded house: don't dream its over

sir mix a lot (?): baby got back (yeah!)

joan jett: i love R&R (face it, she did nothing before or since)

rhyno
Dweller,

I feel you man! Love the song too! But I confess, I'm a freshman in college when it was released!

Cheers....
oh, i almost forgot:

blind melon: no rain

what a great song. lead singer OD'd less than a year later---too much too fast i guess.
Sorry Golden Earring had a huge hit with Radar Love so Twilight Zone can't be included as a one-hit wonder.
Can't remember that far back: but two groups that come to mind are The Chairmen of the Board and The Brooklyn Bridge.
98.6 by Keith. Not my favorite one hit wonder, but many of them have already been named. (Hey, Ninety Eight Point Six it's good to have you back again.)

A couple of coorections - In the Year 2525 was by Zager and Evans (sp?)

"Vincent" was another big hit for Don McLean's (in addition to the reviously mentioned American Pie)
One of the best songs of all time: "Billy, Don't Be a Hero"

Anyone remember who made it?

Oh yeah, also: "They're Coming to Take Me Away" by Napoleon the 5th

And "Yellow River" by The Christies

I think to qualify for this thread the band has to have NOT had a hit or popular album from which the song came. Lots of bands (like The Band) had a single Top 20 hit but at least three great albums.
Believe it or not, Duane Eddy only had one hit: Rebel Rouser. None of his other songs were hits according to a local DJ here in Baltimore.
"Heart feelin' sad cuz...love's gone bad" What an absolutely great song! The Underdogs actually had another "hit" with "The Man in the Glass" and I saw them perform a few times back in the day. They were a local band here in the Detroit area and performed at all the Artist Music Centers Battle of the Bands in '66 through '69.

Further, I have "Love's Gone Bad" on a Cd called Michigan Memories which includes the finest version ever of "In the Midnight Hour" done by The Wanted. Those were some fun days with truly creative, and hard driving garage bands.
Well, if we must keep this going...
Itchycoo Park -Small Faces (Small Faces, sans Rod Stuart, had another hit?)
...and we must! The Rationals - "Respect"

Hey! Anybody remember any song titles from Mac Davis?
Mac Davis - "Baby don't get hooked on me".

Didn't he play the quarterback in the movie "North Dallas Forty"?
