Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

jafant,

How does it sound? Performance and sound quality?
Neil Young WAS one of my favorite artists until about the last 8-10 releases. It seems he doesn't rehearse the songs. They sound like he is making them up as he is recording. Perhaps he fears he will croak if he fiddles with them too long.

ozzy
ozzy-

sometimes NY does make up parts of the songs as he is recording- this makes him somewhat unique in my view. I have been a fan for a very long time. To my ears, he can do no wrong.

To answer your query;
both Peace Trail (featuring Jim Keltner) and Hitchhiker are excellent in performance and sound quality. Peace Trail will have slightly more compression. Hitchhiker is remarkable as it was recorded back in 1976 and it sounds "golden". Most of NY 's catalog is posted on youtube to give a little taste prior to buying. I hope the fans/ music lovers continue to see and hear more releases from his vaults.

jafant,

I too was like ozzy in that I quit buying NY’ lps for a while. I recently started again with "Psychedelic Pill" then "Americana"/lps. Both are very good!

Psychedelic Pill on vinyl is pretty special!

Absolutely! slaw-

anything featuring Crazy Horse- count me in!
Neil Young has an incredible chemistry w/ Crazy Horse, never a bad release in any format.
Happy Listening!
slaw, I don't have any vinyl, but Man! I'd kill to hear "Dirt" on LP.  The guitar on "Rain when I die" is fantastic.
Elvis Costello, "She"

Golden Earring, Tit's n Ass
Yes, "Live at Montreux" 2003

@woobie,

My copy of "Dirt" isn't anything to write home about. I just turn it up and forget about my audiophile sensibilities. My best sounding Alice N' Chains is the domestic "Jar of Flies/ SAP"
INXS- Kick

next month (November) a 30th anniversary edition will be released.
Happy Listening!
What ever happened to Badfinger?...
Don Henley, Cass County. Mr Henley is 70 years old. I caught his concert on Austin City Limits last night.

Nutty, Badfinger's two managers, after the group had made a lot of money, took it all and disappeared. Members Pete Ham and Tom Evans committed suicide, the other two are still around.
if you can find it, read "without you: the tragic story of badfinger", which is one of the best (and certainly the saddest) band bio you'll ever come across. as written, the guys (esp. resident genius pete ham) come across as sweet souls in a mild drunken stupor who obliviously played on while getting mercilessly raped and exploited by their handlers. i've always loved their music, though.
bd24,
Thanks for mini Badfinger bio! Tragic loss.
Loomis, I'll see what I can find. Thanks!

Velvet Revolver, Contraband

nutty, i just looked on amazon and ebay for the badfinger book and it's being sold used for crazy prices ($150 and up)---i suppose that'll only make you want to read it more. maybe you can find it in your library?

Al Stewart and Marvin....

I’m gonna que them up next.

PS:  Saw AS a few years ago locally. He autographed a Y/O The Cat Poster to my 2 Cats...Keela & Abby.
He said it was the first time he ever sighed a Poster for a cat.
Cool Dude 😎
@stevizzy - Cool story. I've meet a lot of artist over the years. Many are really cool, approachable folks. Really just normal folks, trying to make a living. Nice that you, and your cats, got an autograph from Al Stewart.
Thanks....I think AS enjoyed the moment too.
Gawd....The YOTC still sounds great today.
