Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

Roger Waters, “Amused To Death”   SACD

Rogers sonic masterpiece.  Notice I said sonic, not musical.
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers. Originally released 1971.

From the 14 CD reissue/remastered box set released in 2010.

CD
Led Zeppelin (1) s/t, and Led Zeppelin II

From the reissued/remastered box set - ‘The Complete Studio Recordings’ released in 1993.

Was in the mood for some old school rock. Led Zep beats the heck out the Stones in SQ, that is for sure.

@uberwaltz reminded me of a Luc Ponty cassette I have in my collection...

Jean Luc Ponty - The Gift of Time. Columbia 1987

Cassette

Makes for nice Sunday morning listening.
Billie Holiday - All Or Nothing At All. Verve 1987

Cassette

Obviously a reissue/collection, but man, does this have wonderful sound quality. Really really nice. You just get lost in it.
Bkeske.
As far as nak decks go.
Maybe consider a 480.
Yes it's only 2 head but unless you are doing a lot of home recording it's not really a big deal.
The 480 uses the older better transport and controls and is affordable IMHO.
Think $150 to $200.
In fact I am planning on buying one as a back up and to share the playback load.
@uberwaltz

I’ve been looking. I have also seen the the 480’s, but not sure if it would be a step-up from my CR-1A, which I am fairly pleased with, albeit it needs belts replaced, at minimum. But really, the CR-1A sounds pretty darn good, and I do keep things clean and demagnetized. The CR-1A also has the Dolby B/C option which the 480 does not seem to. Granted, I almost always play back on Dolby B, as that is what most all retail tapes that had Dolby processing used (I believe Dolby ‘pro’ was Dolby B). I have only used Dolby C, In most cases, if I recorded a tape with that option, but that’s more rare than years ago.

I kinda agree that 3 head decks are more geared to recording though, something I don’t do much of, as I’m actually starting to purchase old retail cassettes instead of recording a lot as I once did back in the 80’s and 90’s. That just isn’t that important to me now.

The DR-10 looks interesting, but they look to be running about $600-700. There is also a ZX-5 on ebay being sold by a dealer at $666, free shipping.

I’m inclined to stick with my CR-1A unless I make a substantial leap forward.
10-4!
If you can change the belts or have a local dealer do it for a fair price you could well be right.
Not much point making a sideways step.
The Lounge Lizards - Live in Tokyo/Big Heart. Island 1986

Cassette

Very cool album I have not played in a long while. Kinda like punk jazz ;-)

@uberwaltz

I have the service manual. It doesn’t look too tough. The biggest thing, as I understand, is getting high quality or OEM belts. There is a company I’ve bookmarked that has the ‘real deal’ for sale. Not cheap, but in my opinion, the only way to go.

At my age, I’m getting to the point of letting other more experienced folks do stuff like this, even at a cost. Plus, they may be able to look at other settings or alignments that need taken care of, and which I have no clue, while ‘under the hood’. There was a time I would tackle almost anything, but if it’s only $50 or so so let an expert do it, why not? Heck, that’s how I stay in business vs folks who think they can do it themselves ;-) I always tell them, ‘well, good luck’.
Van Morrison - Moondance. WB 1970

Cassette

slip card says 1970, definitely not a remaster of the 80’s onward. No Dolby stamp, and playing it ‘bare’. Not the best SQ, but not too bad. Better than other older 70’s tapes I have, which are few. Flipped my iFi Mini Tube2 over to single ended (SET) mode, and it sounds better. Could have been a 1970 release, but I’m thinking it’s probably a early-mid 70’s release. Just guessing, all these cassette releases are date unknown on Discogs.
They did actually release it on Seven Arts label on cassette in 1970.
That’s quite a survivor of it is a 1970.

Rest of reissues have no date
@uberwaltz

Yep, I see that one on Discogs. Mine is a different card design. M5 3103. Interesting. Still playing well regardless 👍🏼
Some very fine tapes in your collection bkeske.
Still got about 90 new to me ones to work through ,lot of good jazz fusion in the pile.

Breaking in a new tonearm cable right now , need more hours in a day to enjoy all this music 🎸🎻

It’s interesting. Most all my collection was purchased when you had a choice between CD’s or tape during the mid-mid 80-90’s. Why I chose tape over CD on these, I’m not sure. Probably either cost or availability. Thing is, I sure wish, today, I had purchased many many more of my CD collection on tape.
I certainly wish I had not bought into the " perfect sound forever" bullcrap over the little silver disc.😠😠
Changing genre direction and format....

Nanci Griffith - Flyer. Elektra 1994

Hi Carp.
Oh yes we are surviving.
Staying safe and playing music.

My pool is heavily dosed with chlorine but am I safe to drink it?😇😇
Good to hear...

You can drink the pool water, just don't 💉 it!

Starting to worry about everybody's favorite poster, geoff.
Not a peep from him for close to two weeks now.
Hope that rascal is ok.
Bob Dylan - Time Out of Mind. Columbia 1997

I think my TT is getting lonely, jealous, or both.
I knew those two crazy kids would finally stop flirting and take the plunge!

As usual, not the best SQ.....
Flaunt The Imperfection ...... China Crisis.

Cassette.

This one I had serious doubts on as both the case and the tape itself looked like they had been dragged through a swamp.

But very surprised it plays perfectly and as a huge bonus the SQ is outstanding!
