@bslon Cool. Pink Pigs…. I’ve heard about that issue. Be interesting to see what the reviews say about the new version.
yeah, in a hazy mood of high school nostalgia tonight. Still rockin.

@spiritofradio I played side 2 of both of my copies of Pink Floyd, Animals, today. I must have been thinking of another album when I said that I thought it was on the bright side. I found the original copy (an early pressing, right after it was first released) to be a little rough on the edges, sonically. It got a couple of scratches many years ago, probably from a party at my house. That's why I replaced it with the reissue. The reissue copy sounded much smoother and definitely more enjoyable. Mastered by Guthrie, Plante, Grundman. Guthrie makes a statement (when you read about the reissue on Acoustic Sounds) that the original recording is "lo-fi" and that the remix issue helps bring out the music much better. I'll agree that the original recording quality is not up to most other Pink Floyd standards and that the remix does make improvements. I bought my copy, on Pink Floyd Records, in early 2021. The new release is more expensive ($29.95) but includes a 28-page booklet. It's available now (180 gr.) on Music Direct and will likely be available elsewhere any day now. Hope this helps. |
Ran across a Rick Beato YouTube video today titled "WHY This is Rush's Greatest Song". I'm a huge Rush Fan, especially the middle period. Watching and listening to Rick geek out over "Xanadu" was a hoot. Check out the video if you like Rush, Like Rick Beato, or just like music. Here's a link to the video:
Oh, and on the TT tonight - Rush - "A Farewell to Kings" Thanks Rick! |
@loomisjohnson I'm glad you got turned onto something cool. I especially like that it was recorded at the Paramount, a theater that I've seen many shows at. |
@mammothguy54 Hey Joel, thank you so much for doing that comparison. The new version of the 2018 remix of Animals is out tomorrow. I ordered it on advice from a reviewer that said he thinks it’s better than any other previous version. He did not say how it differs from the Pink Floyd records recent issue. I think you’re right about it not being recorded or mixed as well as their previous albums. They did it in their own studio and not at Abby Road. It’s a great record otherwise and I’m really looking forward to getting this remix. |

Kansas-ST(barcode) Side 2 Brahms-Violin Concerto(M 35146) Side 1/2 Rod Stewart-Absolutely Live Side 4 The New York Jazz Quartet-In Concert In Japan Side 2 SQ Audiophile The Fabulous Thunderbirds-Tuff Enough Side 1 Supertramp-Crime Of The Century Side 2 SQ Audiophile Ernestine Anderson-Big City(CJ 214) Side 2 SQ Audiophile Procol Harum-A Whiter Shade Of Pale(1973 repress) Side 1 SQ-Nothing of poor quality was Procol/flat/weak bass or Thunderbirds/edgy slight harshness worse? Pick your poison. Supertramp easily takes the SQ crown with great bass/treble extension. Is it a demo level disc? Despite the critics "Absolutely Live" is a very worthy recording. "Big City" is yet another great CJ release.
