Steve Winwood-Talking Back To The Night Side 1
Michael Franks-The Camara Never Lies Side 1
Bad Company-ST Side 1
Dave Mason-Certified Live Side 2 SQ Audiophile
George Benson-White Rabbit(1979 2nd press) Side 1 SQ Audiophile
Heatwave-Central Heating Side 2
Maggie Rogers-Heard It In A Past Life Side A
Gary Moore-Victims Of The Future(Japanese pressing) Side 2
Could a "live" album win a SQ crown? Tonight it did. I'm aware that they "fix" live recordings, regardless its a great recording with top SQ and content. Maggie Rogers(2019) recording was not warped but scuffed it did have a sonic veil. Might purchase the CD to compare. Central Heating is a 5 star recording with near audiophile SQ if your a R&B fan check it out,

@tgilb, @slaw, i really liked ukelele songs, and i think the "into the wild" soundtrack is hugely underrated (though watching that kid tear up the $15k check makes me want to strangle him). "earthling", was a miss for me--like you say vedder's much better at the straight acoustic stuff than at the lavishly-arranged pop songs. today's picks:
sonny rollins, saxophone colossus--he can play the horn, but the real revelation here is max roach's drums, which are incredible
moby grape, s/t--apparently ongoing copyright disputes make much of these songs unavailable on spotify, but i'm still in awe of this album. bob mosley may have been the great white soul singer.

@mammothguy54 I really like that Beth Hart Zep tribute. I have only streamed it, but I thought she knocked it out of the park.

@slaw Hey Steve! Good morning. Are you back to work yet? Wanted to ask you: what you think of the new FJM?
|
Hey James. Still testing positive although feel okay. If "God's FC" is Tillman's latest, I really like it. I can't keep up with artist' output like I use to. He's a big talent!
Set up my new to me phono stage and volume control this morning. Had to buy some cables/adapters to make it all work. Those will need some break-in I'd imagine.
|
Steve, still going straight to the sub from your phono stage?
|
Yeah, only now I have an in-line volume control (SPL Volume 2)
I plan on trying a passive later.

The World's Greatest Jazzband Of Yank Lawson And Bob Haggart – Live At The Roosevelt Grill (Atlantic 1970)
|
@slaw How did you like the Dan? I'm still waiting on mine. It's scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
|
Just arrived today, took me by a bit of a surprise, as it was sold as the stereo version, but instead the mono version, but it is very clean, and will keep it. Sounds very nice, and gives me a reason to put on my Ortofon mono cartridge and spin some of my mono collection….which I have been meaning to do.
The Kohon Quartet of New York University : Dvořák - Chamber Music Vol. II (Complete). VOX 3LP box, believe mid-1960’s, mono

Greg, It sounded very good! Can't be more descriptive due to system changes but seemed very overall coherent and solid

Weather Report -- "Mysterious Traveler"
@slaw
Good to see you're getting some quality listening time during your recovery process, Steve. Gotta get on that Marty Stuart record!
|
Hey Chris. Is the Dolly a pp or the latest version?
|
Steve,
It's a pp, but unfortunately, I am going to have to send it back to the seller. Just got it today and side two is badly worn and noisy, despite a deceptively clean surface appearance. It was rated NM, clearly on visual inspection only. Oh well, that's the danger of buying on eBay. Usually, I have better luck. I'll find a better one.

Hey Chris,
Have you ever used a hand held steamer to clean lps? I find it a useful tool in my vinyl cleaning arsenal.

Steve,
I never have used one. Is there one you'd recommend in particular?

I’ve been through 4 or 5 off of Amazon. Their return policy is so generous that it’s easy to find one your satisfied with. They have changed brand names often through the years so that makes it hard to recommend one that I’m still using after 4-5 years now. One with a larger water tank is nice. Remember that your usable amount of water is less than the tanks' stated capacity.

I (as well as @bdp24 ) agree! Great album...

BTW, I was able for find a reasonably priced copy of "Sweet Relief" June 2022 RSD exclusive on Discogs. Should be here next Tuesday. Hoping it was worth the effort. Have had it on CD since it's original release, and love the album. I'm not typically a big fan of various artists compilations, but I've always enjoyed this one...
