@slaw hey, Sir

How are you doing? Hope things are great? For you and everyone here.

Listening more on Sat and Sunday mornings so haven't been posting as much here.

@slaw did you do anything new to your system recently?

I have a room correction system in place on mine and it is a fairly amazing piece of gear

The Move “Split Ends” United Artists 1972

Ultravox “s/t” Island UK 1977

Bruce Springsteen “Born To Run” CBS 1975

Lots of post in the last few weeks. Congrats on the updates, sounds like you are happy with them!

@bkeske Good to hear the 5814A worked. As I mentioned, I find the CV400x to be a bit too warm so these are going to seem like a breath of fresh air!

@slaw I looked at the spec sheets of both and they are virtually identical give or take about 1% on all measurements. 12AU7 | 5814A

The Staples-Pass It On Side 2

Climax Blues Band-Real To Reel Side 1

Karrin Allyson-Footprints(#1073) Side C SQ Audiophile

My playlist is from last night. Started a little late so only spun 6 albums. Karrin Allyson-Footprints was excellent in SQ and content. One of a few albums that I have paid at least $100 for. Yet another Concord Jazz recording with Audiophile SQ. "Peace On You" was better then expected, sure made it obvious where Tom Petty was influenced.

It’s interesting as I never considered replacing the Brimar’s after installing them, as they are quite popular and were highly recommended. So, I somewhat ignored the au7’s and concentrated on the ax7’s instead. This was a nice change, but now wonder what an Amperex, Mullard, or Telefunken, etc. might bring to the table. But, for the time being, I’ll enjoy these. Seem like a bargain to me.

Not audiophile SQ. Good performance, always liked her music

Brian, I've 28 tubes in my phono > pre > monobloc chain. Every one of them makes a difference!

Hey @noromance ,

I was always afraid to get that deep into tubes for that reason and the ongoing expense.

I say this as I pulled out my Quicksilver V-4s to dust off and insert into the system.

@slaw  Steve, amplifiers that don't have tubes are invisible to me! Have fun with the V-4. Thing is about tube amps is that the right tubes will elevate the amp whereas crap tubes will make it sound average. I'm amazed when I see expensive amps with JJs.

Brian, These came with Tung-Sol KT 120 cryo’d from Upscale.supposedly newish.

Fired them up last night for a while to bias the tubes in anticipation of final install.

Steve, very cool re: pulling your Quicksilver’s out. Very nice.

And Brian, no doubt that every tube counts towards SQ.

Tubes are really fun, but like Steve, it’s also a huge rabbit hole. But I can see how engaging it would be to work at getting them all to work together, sometimes doing different things in order to achieve the sound you want.

Streaming the new Graham Nash Military Madness/Wild Tales Live

His voice has held up better than most from that era.

The LP's are now on order.
