Just brought up the humidifier from the basement. It's winter. Humidity down to 22% today.

Off to a great Saturday.
@bslon +1 Patti Smith "Easter"
@sbank +1 Elliot Smith "From A Basement on a Hill"
@sns +1 Butthole Surfers, you compared them with Dead Kennedys, in fact Jello Biafra is/was a huge fan of theirs. Surfers opened for the Kennedys in San Francisco once. Biafra's label Alternative Tentacles released several Surfers albums as I recall.
|
Good to know Spencer. Recently bought Johnny Cash "ACL". That will be my first ACL lp.
|
|
The Beatles "Esher Demos"
from the 4lp box
|
great SQ in that 4lp box set @slaw
The Beatles - Beatles For Sale (Mono) SQ not quite as good but enjoy the music
|
+1 Black Star, liking it more after every play
+1 Rough Mix, in the regular rotation here
|
|
Paul Rodgers - The Royal Sessions
+1 Esher Demos, jealous, mine are digital
|
@slaw
Thanks for the heads-up on the New West sale.
Just picked-up Hiatt's The Open Road and Eclipse Sessions for a great price. +15% off for my first order.
Mystic Pinball was unfortunately sold out.

Back from Mammoth Mountain, had a great early season ski trip. Can't wait for more of that, but we really do need more snow. Come on Winter!
Joan Armatrading "To The Limit"
Joan Armatrading "Show Some Emotion"
Both are excellent albums. I just ordered her first album, self titled, in NM/M- condition on Discogs. I look forward to that one, probably a week from now. It's movie night with my wife, the recently released "Respect". Then I'll spin some vinyl. I have some Stevie Ray Vaughan in the front of my rotation stack for tonight. Who knows what else...
|
Just arrived,
Lucinda Williams "Have Yourself Rockin' Little Christmas"
|
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
Discogs purchase arrived today - NM as advertised
|
Ray LaMontagne "Monovision"
|
+1 Joan Armatrading
Glad you had a safe trip Joel.
|
Welcome back Joel.
Just finished doing the last yard work of the late fall. Don't worry, winter is coming.
|
Johnny Cash "Live From Austin Texas"
NewWest
SQ is EX, there are a few spots that are slightly noisy. Should be able to steam them out......
|
|
David Crosby "If I Could Only Remember My Name"
50th
I have the Classic Records....should be interesting.
I always thought this album sounded slightly different than most. The advertising says this remaster has had the speed corrected. It is mastered by CB.
Listening to the first song, sounds like it was recorded yesterday.
|
Dire Straits - S/T and Communique - Mofi 45rpm - reference records
Billy Joel - the Stranger
Jackson Browne - The Pretender
Beck - Sea Change - stunning
Ibrahim Ferrer - Beunos Hrrmanos - excellent
|
Hey @6t5-gto,
I finally got a copy of Sea Change after all these years. It is such a great /great sounding, album!
|
Puttin’ on the Classic Records version now. No
volume change.
Again, the first song....Music is Love, this version is definitely slower. There is additional low bass info, but by comparison, all of these differences considered, I like the 50th better after first listen.
|
Steve, are you referring to the newly released 50th Anniversary edition of the David Crosby album? It's available at Acousti Sounds and I was considering buying it, now with the 10% discount they have going on for Black Friday. Please advise. Thank you.
|
Beach Boys "Endless Summer" Capitol 1974
Dave Brubeck "Time In" Columbia 1966
Carla Bley Band "Musique Mecanique" Watt 1979
Quiet Sun "Mainstream" Polydor UK 1975
The Residents "Meet The Residents" Ralph Records 1977
|
Jackson Browne "Standing On The Breach"
This lp has some low bass!
|
Joel,
Yes. I bought mine from Amazon. If Chad has a special version, I'm unaware.
|
Steve, it looks like the special version at Acoustic Sounds is that it's the same version but for $31.98 verses from Amazon at $22.49. I can't see any other difference, both are Atlantic Records and the description of being the 50th Anniversary Edition from 2021 are the same. Thanks for the good tip.

Just brought up the humidifier from the basement. It’s winter. Humidity down to 22% today.
Yup. I have to ground myself off the metal Lally column before touching the headshell lift. Otherwise...
|
Yeah Joel. Years ago, you had to buy $1k of records to get 10% off, at Chad’s place.
|
@noromance
Yup. I have to ground myself off the metal Lally column before touching the headshell lift. Otherwise...
I hear ya. Luckily my rack that holds my SOTA has a metal frame, so back to reminding myself to tap it a couple times before I grab the headshell.
Still spinning silver discs today, so don't have to worry as much.....today.
|
Gotta pay for those pressing machines....
|
Jason Molina "Eight Gates"
|
Neil Young - Harvest Moon. I think I finally got a decent copy. It took three tries.
|
These are the trials of us diehard analog lovers, Greg.
I've actually created a pile of lps going back for replacement
|
Andy Pratt "Records Are Like Life"
1969/Polydor/promo .
This is awesome!
Sorry James.
|
Julie London / Julie Is Her Name
1960 Liberty -- Japanese pressing, stereo version
|
Welcome back Joel!
6T5, Sns, Puffball,
I think the Butthole Surfers are another one of those great bands that flew below the radar. Off the wall for sure, but creative.
Big Greg, Bslon,
Davids last album is a masterpiece IMO
Bowie / Lodger

|
+1. Julie London / Julie Is Her Name
Aren't those 60s recordings great?
|
Pink Floyd "The Division Bell"
latest/dbl/lp
|
@tomic601 This is the slow time at my shop, which works out well for me and my bird dogs. Usually get 50-60 days afield in 3 or 4 different states every winter. That and music are my therapy.
Waiting for me when I got home from KS was a FedEx package containing one of tonight's listens:
Miles Davis All Stars-Walkin 2021 ERC
Comparing this press to my previous favorite, the 1976 Japan reissue. As one might expect the ERC is VERY detailed, but to my ears the most impressive aspect of this new pressing is the complete absence of noise.
Jimmy Smith-Back at the Chicken Shack. 2021 BN
|
Bob Dylan "Desire"
MFSL/45 rpm
|
Harmonious Thelonious / Drums of steel
|
u dudes are killing it tonight - I am just getting started.... but all my ancient Telefunkens checked out good on my LiL B and K tester today, so breakin continues on the MC240....
Alison Krauss and Union Station - So Long So Wrong ( Mofi )
|
Putting Crosby - Name 50 th on the list, love that masterwork. I have a decent sounding German pressing but it's NM minus on a good day downhill with the wind and humidity....
|
Eels "Daisies of the Galaxie"
|
+1 for the Eels
Blues Control / Local flavor
|
Jim, it's nice the barMetric pressures weren't a factor
|
@noromance
Aren't those 60s recordings great?
For sure! Listened to all 4 sides of Julie London, funny to think the record's 60 years old! Lovely voice, nice accompaniment.

Earth, Wind & Fire "Gratitude"
