Thx for spotlighting this Brian. it is quite enjoyable.

Glad you enjoyed it Jim.
Middlemass,
I agree, Black pudding from Lanegan & Garwood is great!

Nick Cave / Skeleton tree
Outstanding album!
Bobbie Gentry - The Windows of the World. Still getting through some of the RSD releases I picked up. I really like this.
I was listening to Donald Fagen The Night Fly on a 45 RPM LP Master Recording.  It's like having him preforming in the room.
@noromance

Been keeping my eyes out for possible tube deals, and just saw some Dynaco/Telefunken smooth plate 12ax7’s for a very decent price.

if your read this, would love to know your thoughts on these. Listed on US Audio Mart, and as links aren’t allowed, search “Telefunken 12AX7/ECC83 quad (4) tubes smooth plate test strong on Hickok 800 transconductance tester”

Thanks in advance, or anyone else who might have knowledge of these.
Doc Evans / Knocky Parker / Albert Nicholas / Earl Murphy / Gene Juckem – Reminiscing In Dixieland, Stomps And Blues Vol. 2 (Audiophile 1959)
@noromance

Seriously? Did you look at them? You know a lot more than I do about these tubes, and have been looking for some smooth plates per your suggestion. Just wasn’t sure about the Dynaco/Telefunken’s and didn’t want to overspend if they are not worth it.

Thanks!
Sure. They are Telefunkens just rebranded for Dynaco. I pulled mine from a Dyna tuner years ago and they're still going strong.
Although, I see they’ve got really expensive now. I bought other Dynaco/Teles for $40 a pair years ago.
He pulled them from a Dynaco pre that he has for sale also (I believe). Put new JJ’s in that to sell these separately for bit extra cash. I think. Maybe I’ll make him a counter-offer.
The Dukes Of Dixieland – Now Hear This (Colombia Six-eye 1962)

Smooth jazz with he supreme clarity of this era.
@noromance

No no 😁…..$35 off his $245 asking price w/shipping. So, $210 with shipping. Yea. That would have been a heck of deal for $35. Ha!

Still, not a bad a deal on smooth plate Telefunken’s. Just because they are rebranded. I’m not going to be upset they don't have the Telefunken stamping on the glass, I wanna hear the sound.
Keely Smith – Swingin’ Pretty (Capitol 1959)

Not her best recording. Vocals are a bit further back in a sometimes busy mix.
He accepted -$35
I see what you did there.
...
Anyhow, they have the Telefunken diamond between pins molded in glass.
Yep, I looked closely at the photos from the bottom. Looks like the diamond is there. In fact, downloaded and zoomed in Photoshop ;-)

Im excited to try these. Thanks for your guidance @noromance
Pretenders  S/T   Nautilus Superdisc Half-Speed Master recording.  Excellent album of excellent music.  I got the idea to play this album from this thread, yesterday.  What a wonderful thread, the best on the forum.

George Harrison  "All Things Must Pass"  I have had this since it was first released.  It's in perfect condition.  Played only a few times, the box and all of the records and sleeves look like new.  The music is wonderful but it's a crying shame that the SQ is terrible.  Do any of you have an original copy (like I do) and find that the SQ is terrible, or is yours sounding good?  Now I remember why it has so little play, it's because the SQ is that bad.  "Isn't it a Pity"
@mammothguy54

I have the original Joel, but mine isn’t anywhere near mint, as I played it so much ‘back in the day’. But, even though I played it a lot, yes, even on lesser equipment, I was always disappointed in the SQ. You can blame some of that on Spector but, IMO, it seems even more than that. It is a pity.
mammothguy54,
I also have the original & agree with you on SQ.

Jim James / Region of light...
Stokowski Rhapsodies
Liszt • Enescu • Smetana
RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra
RCA/Classic Records 1961/2015
Beethoven
String Quartet in E Flat Major, Op. 127
Amadeus Quartet
DG 1970 Compilation (Germany)

From the big box. Excellent SQ.
@mammothguy54..I have a very early Apple pressing of All Things Must Pass also and agree that the SQ is not the best but I still do enjoy stepping into the "Light".

Also agree with @bkeske that the recording was most likely impacted a bit by the over-production of Phil Spector.

I'd be curious to hear how the newly released remasters sound.
