Another Leo arrival today….

Leo Kottke - My Feet Are Smiling. Capitol 1973

Recorded live at the Tyrone Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis
Another arrival…

James posted spinning this not long ago. It’s been on my ‘want list’ for a while, and finally picked one up. My friends had this back in the day, but I had never purchased it.

It's A Beautiful Day - S/T. Capitol reissue 1970, originally 1969

@noromance

The Kottke posse 👍🏼
Brahms, Christian Ferras, Herbert von Karajan, Berliner Philharmoniker ‎– Violinkonzert In D-dur (Deutsche Grammophon 1967)
@noromance

I kid you not, a Karajan selection is next on my play list :-D
Ha! It gets better.
Currently on the slab:
Schubert / Beethoven : Berliner Philharmoniker · Herbert von Karajan ‎– Symphonie Nr. 8 Unvollendete/ Fidelio · Leonore III · Coriolan (Ouvertüren)
(Deutsche Grammophon 1971)
The next new arrival….

Karajan conducts Sibelius #5 & Tapiola Op. 112. Berliner Philharmoniker. Deutsche Grammophon 1965 German pressing
Better snap outta that!

Low ‎– Long Division
(Plain Recordings 2011 RE [1995])
Johnny Cash - The Fabulous Johnny Cash - Impex - extremely good

Holly Cole Trio - Don't Smoke in Bed - AP 33rpm - this record is incredibly well recorded and AP did an awesome job with it but the music is just awful. Awful. Couldn't make it through side 1. If I had not picked it up cheap I would take it back. Awful
Saved this last arrival, well, for last….

Sir John Barbirolli conducts Mahler’s 9th. Berliner Philharmoniker. EMI/His Masters Voice German reissue, originally 1964. 1 1/2 LP gatefold. Unknown release, but guessing, early-mid 70’s.
Andrew Bird - Mysterious Production of Eggs - such a great album and the SQ is quite good
Lana Cantrell ‎– The Now Of Then! (RCA Victor 1969)

Love her voice. Excellent record.
Holy crap man, that Mahler 9th was amazing. The Adagio grabs you by the throat, gut, an heart, and doesn’t let you ignore it until the music finishes. What an incredible work.

That guy, David LaFlamme (sp) was quite a good musician I think.   Hope you enjoyed it.  Sort of progressive.  Very period.

I did indeed. Had not heard it all the way through since the 70’s. Brought back a lot of memories.

Unfortunately I don’t think that band got a fair shake, but was under bad management. Same manager the Airplane had, and who were prying themselves from when It’s A Beautiful Day hired the guy. He actually wouldn’t allow them to perform in S.F. for quite a while.

Montrose S/T

Just arrived at my front door. Thanks Amazon and Thanks Friday Music! It's a rocker......
Dinosaur Jr./ self-titled 1985 LP.

A little rough. Recorded in someone's basement.
Doesn't sound like J Mascis is lead vocal on everything back then.

You hear some hints of their later sound on a few songs, i.e.  Where you Been (1993).
I have that album, "It's A Beautiful Day".  I bought it new in 1973 and is in perfect condition.  One of the best Hippie period albums I own.  It sounds really good when played really loud.  I just did that a few weeks ago.  Lots of fun...

Mentions here about Leo Kottke got me looking for my copies.  I was surprised not to find any in my mix.  Maybe I lent them out and never got them back?  Well, I bought two on Discogs and they should arrive in a few days.  S/T and Burnt Lips.  $4.99 and $2.99, respectively.  NM/M- rating on condition.  Maybe they are the ones I had lent out...LOL

I have the Chailly Mahler/Royal Concertgebouw CD box set. Very very nice. It’s what lead me to find the 9th on vinyl, as I’ve not had it yet. Very few 9th’s available on vinyl actually.
