Anyone familiar with the Dynavector DV-20? There is a gentleman in Canada selling one, just re-tipped by Soundsmith. The Canada exchange cost to USD would be about $510.

Seems a very tempting price for a freshly retipped ruby cantilever low output MC to add to the stable. Less than half the cost for a new one. Looks very clean.

I trust your guys opinion, albeit, the Soundsmith engineer/builder I chat with at times insists that my Zephyr would ‘mop up’ most MC carts in this price range, and even more expensive.
Brian,

Dynavector doesn't retip their own carts.
I own two Karat D3s in need of help.

Probably best for trade in.
Good point Steve. I’m sure having it retipped by Soundsmith would be twice the cost of my Zephyr. I keep hunting for a deal on an MIMC.
i did reveal my cheating w Stones and on... Phono pre is in a box....

aint nothing free James..but yes, many tube amps are dominated by the sound of the output transformers.....

i was listening to a presentation today where Roger Modjeski praised Futterman....but in next breath said he built 5k v output tube amps to direct drive electrostatic......RIP Roger who hand wound his own transformers, then engineered his way out of the....

enjoy the music.....
Currently using two Noteworthy Audio ICs in my signal chain. Breaking in

Wow, the clarity is remarkable.
@tomic601 Keep me updated on the Croft shootout.

@bkeske Didn't know you were an ISB man. I have a bunch.
@noromance

@bkeske Didn't know you were an ISB man. I have a bunch.

Actually, the only one I have. I do pull it occasionally. Sounded great last night.
@noromance the RM4/Croft combo not ideal from s/n parameter, the Croft is excellent when fed higher output:-)
@big_greg,

You asked last week about the Lucinda lp.....

First listen was kind of a shock because I didn't know what to expect. Second listen and I'm really digging it. SQ is great, on par with most of her stuff. Recommended, especially if you're a fan.
Any of you own the domestic and MFSL lp of Sea Change? Hard to imagine the MFSL sounding that much better to command the current price.
Watching a replay of the Berlin Philharmonic concert that was streamed live last week as I was working….but…after that is done, received this in the mail today, and excited to take it for a spin.

Hilary Hahn - Paris. Works by Prokofiev, Chausson, and Rautavaara. Mikko Franck conducting the Orchestre Philharmonique De Radio France. Deutsche Grammophon 2LP 45rpm set. 2021

SQ on this record is pretty mediocre. Very little bass. I guess maybe this era and kind of classic rock record is why some people purchase equalizers or bass boosters. I can see why. I’ve never wanted to put an EQ on an analogue rig. Probably not worth it for me either, but.... EQ works good for me in the car or on my portable rig. Might use it on two out of a hundred records at home. Hmmm.....

+1 Brian.  You’re in for a treat.
@spiritofradio,

James, my Universal remaster from 15/20 years ago? sounds amazing.

Has the original cover
@spiritofradio

+1 Brian.  You’re in for a treat.

Thank you for reminding me James. I had not checked it’s availability in a few days.

I also want to say, that the purchase, of all places Target, was very fast and well packaged. Whodathunkit. Nice, and a good price. Might have to see what else they offer.
@slaw yeah, sort of surprised.  Guess I shouldn’t have been.  I have the remixed album on my computer and it always sounded nice and punchy.   This UK OP is vocals forward astringent treble, shy on bass and very shy on attacks.  Oh well.
I think I’m in love with Norah... again.

This record is amazing on it's own but also because it was recorded at different venues and sounds consistently amazing!

Holy smokes man, listening to Hilary right now, and the depth and soundstage they achieved just on her solo violin is pretty incredible. Impressive. Great detail.

Oh, and obviously masterful playing.

Cleaning up a big stack of used records.  Why do some people clean records with their peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?
I thought you’d like it.   I can’t really begin to describe it.  She’s from another world or heaven or ....  well, I like the way she plays.
What! And waste all the available vitamins and nutritive value?

hey Steve, you should maybe have whoever’s in charge of Audiogon rename this thread to “Who do you have a musical crush on tonight”...
James / Brian,

You guys have got to get this Norah Jones lp.

I was on the fence, but when I saw the song list that included Black Hole Sun, I pushed the order button.

Not disappointed at all!!!

The Chausson concerto is spell binding.
@slaw

Steve, I have three of her CD’s. The only one I really enjoy, from a strictly audiophile perspective, is ‘Feels Like Home’. That has some 3D depth, and a sense of players around her. The others were mixed with her way too ‘forward’, lacking depth and becoming very two dimensional.

Perhaps, as a live performance, they captured ‘the room’ and stage.

Does she simply play solo with the piano on this?
