Jeol,

Glad you enjoyed "Oh, Yeah?" I've really enjoyed it. Only made better by the fact that my copy is NM in shrink and it cost my 12.5 cents when I bought a bunch of records from a LRS for 8/$1 on closeout.

I hate to rain on anyone’s parade but regarding The Who "Live @ Leeds" 3 lp re-master. There are two re-mastered versions of these. One is by Universal from 2017, the other is the latest  German pressing re-mastered at Abbey Road. The later is $9.00 more.

I had this on my radar when I first saw it and it fell off. I just ordered the later version.
Count Basie "On My Way & Shoutin’ Again" mono/Verve/1962
Another disappointing lp ordered off Discogs....for VG+ lp & cover.
Did a deep clean, we’ll see?
Joel - Did the Degritter arrive ? Seems perfect for a condo dweller such as I......
Hey Steve, the 3XLP "Live at Leeds" I purchased from Amazon is from 2016. Polydor/UMG International - Barcode  0600753698075. Says "Made in the EU" on the back cover sleeve.
Tom,

The thread (johnto) started was inquiring about the Abbey Road half- speed re-master. Since I've had great luck with all AB re-masters, that's the one I ordered.
Steve,

Mine is the Abby Road Half-Speed Master. Black OBI Strip and all. I think it's really good. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you receive it.
Today I received notice from Mobile Fidelity of the upcoming UltraDisc One-Step LP of Carole King's Tapestry album. I haven't loved any of the previous One-Step titles enough to spend $125 (if I had known the Santana would now be selling for over a grand, I would have bought one just to resell!), but this one's different. Great songs, singing, musicianship, and recorded sound quality. Cheaper than a " White Hot Stamper" copy, and undoubtedly better sounding. "Limited" to 10,000 copies, so there are plenty to go around. Just be aware: all previous One-Steps sold out prior to street date.
Tom,

Looking at Discogs, there was an Abbey Road, 1/2 speed re-master in 2016 on the Back to Black series. Apparently there’s been more than two, 3 lp re-masters. My Back to Black lps all sound very good.
Let’s compare pressing notes when I receive my copy.
@bdp24,

Your response kind of surprises me. I have the "Couldn’t Stand The Weather" UD1S arriving on Sat.

I was surprised to read my Beatles Mono box is selling for over a grand now!

I think those who are more well heeled, do buy these pressings for later sale at a profit.
I'm happy with the system changes I made a few days ago involving rearranging isolation products.
Tapestry is a War Dept. favorite, i will call my local vinyl crack dealer tommorow and reserve a copy. i always found the sonics murky at best, so........hope springs eternal.....
Rhythm, Country, & Blues
Geffen 1994/2021

Music from the documentary (TV Special?). I was really impressed when I saw this back when it came out and bought a cassette of the recordings from the sessions documented in the film. Now it’s on vinyl. This really seemed like something in 94 - getting black artists into the studio with country stars, doing duets, etc. Anyway, it holds up, and it’s really good.

Highlights include a duet with Lyle Lovett and Al Green, an absolutely sweet great Staples Singers version of The Weight, and a Billy Joe White tune...
I thought you had turned in Jim....

Investing in yet one more copy of Tapestry would be a stretch for me since I own the Classic Records version already.

Your surprise in justified and understandable @slaw. I made statements a while back about what I considered the folly of issuing "audiophile" LP pressings of albums whose recorded sound quality made such a pressing the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig. I still feel that way, but Tapestry is NOT amongst such albums. Not just a good sounding recording, but truly a classic album. Unlike a lot of early-70’s albums, this one doesn’t sound dated.

I’ve been curious to hear just how good the MoFi UltraDisc One-Step pressings sound, but didn’t love the music on any of the previous titles (including Blood On The Tracks) enough to be willing to pay to find out. MoFi has finally picked a title that broke down that resistance. Michael at 45 RPM Audiophile (his Vinyl Community videos are viewable on YouTube) has compared his One-Steps to other pressings of the same albums, and his reviews were unreserved raves.

For those who don’t know, the UltraDisc One-Step LP’s are a radical improvement in LP technology in two ways: 1- Two steps in the LP manufacturing process---the making of a Father and Mother, used in between the metal part cut by the mastering engineer and the stampers---are eliminated. And 2- MoFi is pressing the LP’s using the new "Super" vinyl formulation (it has a name and number, which elude my memory), which possesses the lowest noise floor we’ve ever had. Some other audiophile companies are also starting to use that new vinyl formulation.

I know, was scratchin my head about that choice for an expensive one step.   It will sell out of course - people love it.  But I never thought the sound quality was good or really the point.

Well, who woulda thought the Santana album could sound that good? Eliminating those two steps provides a marked increase in transparency, or at least that is what has been reported by people with rather high standards. We shall see!

I have scratched my head at other chosen titles, but am well aware that my taste in music is not in line with MoFi's target audience: Boomers with mainstream tastes. Tapestry is definitely such a title, but I'm not THAT snobby. ;-)

I passed on the Santana because I had previously bought in to all the other reissues. Common’!

I will say that of the 4 UD1S titles I do own, they are vastly superior to previous copies.

I now have to include, Patricia Barber "Cafe Blue" Impex. Sounds vastly superior to my 33/45rpm MFSL pressings
